My eye is drawn to the shadow under the corner of his left eye. If it were my shot I'd consider making it lighter.

First adult headshot.. my husband. He doesn't like the lighting and shadows. Thoughts?

Thoughts
1) raise camera height slightly
2) move camera slightly to right
3) fix shirt collar on camera left
4) F5.6 or 6.3 instead of F4 for more DoF
5) rotate body slightly more towards camera to avoid skin line on neck
6) fix jacket camera left so it fits snuggly on body around neck area
6) very fair skin person so drop flash level very slightly to reduce hot spots and position white bounce surface camera right to provide some fill

Finally, have husband (maybe yourself also) watch some Peter Hurley videos about headshots - Peter is the master.

Hockey and wedding photographer. Favourite camera / lens combos: a 1DX II with a Tamron 45 1.8 VC, an A7Rii with a Canon 24-70F2.8L II, and a 5DSR with a Tamron 85 1.8 VC. Every lens I own I strongly recommend [Canon (35Lii, 100L Macro, 24-70F2.8ii, 70-200F2.8ii, 100-400Lii), Tamron (45 1.8, 85 1.8), Sigma 24-105]. If there are better lenses out there let me know because I haven't found them.

lighting is fantastic - absolutely beautiful skin tones

1st picture is amazing

2nd picture robs her of her curves and thickens her

5d3 F6.3, 1/160 &100mm

Working on my lighting and retouching. I left a lot of headroom, normally wouldn't do that but I was into the color and light up there.

Lighting doesn't bother me at all. Men generally handle shadows better than women. The patterned shirt and jacket are (IMO) more of a distraction than the lighting.

She looks good, but I personally wouldn't want to see that many highlights in her eyes.
