I created this as it's own thread (under Canon EOS) but though I would just throw it in here too for those that didn't see it.

Ok, this is to demonstrate just how far digital photography has come and taken us. We whine about ISO 6400 / 12800 / 25k etc, but most photos taken digitally in the last 5 years would likely surpass the image quality of this likely 'pre-digital' March 1999 image of Kobe Bryant and Allen Iverson.

I'm about to get myself a sigma 120-300 2.8 sports.
Is that a good combo with my 7D2 or should i better go for something else?

I use now a 100-400 v1 but thats about to die on me.
I'm open for suggestions...

From what I heard, the sigma sports 120-300 2.8 get good reviews. If not buying new, you'll want to research which version (era) got the improved AF. The glass has always been very sharp, AF has improved over the years and now is considered very reliable. It will take a 1.4x TC so you'll get 420mm f4. It will be MUCH heavier than your 100/400 so be prepared. You might want to rent one to try it if you haven't used on already. If you find it too haven't, you'll probably want the MK II of the 100/400.

QUOTED IMAGE

In 2005 there were only a handful of photogs who could take excellent BIF shots and now anyone can do it. New tech in bodies and less expensive lenses with excellent IQ has made a world of difference.

I use the non-sport 120-300 with a 7D2 and am happy with the results. I often use it with a 2x TC and get acceptable (to me) performance. It is heavier than a 100-400 I. Using a monopod or tripod definitely helps keep the lens on target and can allow much lower shutter speeds than hand held. If hand holding, I prefer a higher shutter speed to using IS, but I will use IS with a monopod / tripod.

Thanx for the reply,
I will be buying new.
I'll go to a shop and try the lens but i dont think the weight wil be any problem.

I am really going for a 2.8 so if it is not going to be a 120-300 S than a secondhand 300 2.8 v1 will be next in line.
