These were taken recently at Carr Mill Dam during a small race meet. The Orange F2 boat was just setting up for a forthcoming international race I believe, ie not racing. Not all that sharp most of them :(

I took the plunge and hired a 300mm f2.8ii last weekend (works out at about 1% of the purchase price of it) and went to Rother Valley near Sheffield to shoot the powerboats. mostly rotten light and ticker tape to keep you away from getting to close to the action spoilt the day a little, but the lens is truly astonishing. incredible focus speed and not even too heavy for handholding (I need to work on my biceps though :D ) These were with my trusty 7Dii (hoping the 7Diii will have better noise :D aren't we all). i do have other angles that aren't left to right, but they are pretty big digital crops so I though I'd probably best not post them here :) I should add that the F2 boats only had 4 of them in a race and a similar number in the F4 race :(

Love number one with the prop slightly out! Where do you rent from? I go over once a year to visit family in Bidford-on-Avon, and I really wanted to rent a lens for a few days while I was in Paris with my wife, but that would have meant renting it from over here in the US for almost three weeks, and that was a little longer than I really wanted to. :)

Rent for 3 weeks? Might as well buy the lens at that point...

I rented from Calumet (now linked with WEX), It works out at about 1% of the purchase price for a Friday pickup and a Monday morning return. The insurance cost about £10. having said that it's hardly any more to hire the 400mm f2.8 II :)

Ah I just checked your location and I think Calumet folded in the USA? There are several rental companies that do lens hire here in the UK so I image they are plentiful in the USA :) To take advantage of the Calumet deal you need to be a UK resident

On a side note, is it better for IQ to upload to the forum servers or use a third party like Flickr

Oh yeah, plenty over here, but that means I basically have to rent the entire time I'm over there. I have relatives in Bidford-on-Avon, so I think I'll use that option next time we come over. Thanks for the info :)

Good to hear Mr Merrick :) Mind you, I got an email today from Calumet and it looks like they are about to rebrand as WEX Photographic. Shouldn't make any difference, but I will miss the Calumet brand.
