I agree with trying to get lower. Past Equipment | My Personal Gallery

Apr 23, 2017 20:15 | #4 i was afraid to go past 3200 , I don't think i have ever went past 3200 ... thinking the photo would look way to grainy or to much noise ?

If you shoot loose and then try to crop into a high iso shot, it will look like junk. & Open up to 2.8 to buy you some more shutter speed. 1/500 is fine for girls basketball. I have regularly shot low light sports at max ISO (both on my original 7D and now the 5DIII). While photographers make a big fuss about noise I have never had anyone else comment on it. Just apply a bit of noise reduction in Lightroom (don't try to eliminate all noise, you will kill too much detail). If you are outputting at 2000ish pixels on the long side for emailing or web use it is unlikely anyone will notice the noise. Dan Marchant

You can shoot at higher ISOs, if you use proper post processing techniques and tools. This nets you faster shutter speeds which will help sharpness in the image for action. I would strive to get to 1/800 to 1/1000 at a minimum. Past Equipment | My Personal Gallery

Apr 24, 2017 09:38 | #9 Again i thank you all for the good insight it’s very valuable. I usually shot lacrosse outside, Some wrestling but this is a first for inside gym basketball . Ironically i have both the 85, & 70-200. I did not give the 85 a thought at all , and when i had the 70-200 on it was to tight and tough to grab some shots , and yep most of my time i spent under or close to the basket .. lesson learned from you folks here, on position and lens for next week

Your AF settings and your ability to keep an AF point on the player will have to be spot on due to the restrictive DOF. I run about f/3.2 or so when shooting basketball, and I move around the perimeter of the court. Past Equipment | My Personal Gallery

So when I shoot sports there, I regularly shoot at ISO 12800 with a Canon 7D2 to freeze the action and the noise is not that bad.

Apr 24, 2017 16:43 | #12 I sold my 70D and bought a 6D just because of indoor basketball. I regularly shoot at 1/1000th, F2 and ISO 12800 for my kid's games. I went through a few different lenses and landed on the 100mm f/2. The 85mm f/1.8 was fine too. If you're shooting from the side line try your 85mm f/1.8. If you want to shoot under the basket try a 50mm f/1.8. Canon EOS 5DIII | Canon EF 16-35 f/4L IS USM | EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II | Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM | Sigma 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM C

No flash was allowed or additional lighting .. ISO 3200 //f/3.2-....1/400...55mm .. I start shooting basketball when I got my infamous 70D. I have shot with the Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 II APO EX DG, Canon EF 70-200mm f2.8L IS II USM, EF-S 18-135mm f3.5-5.6 IS STM (kit lens), EF 200mm f1.8 USM, and Sigma 17-70mm f2.8-4 HSM non-Contemporary with the infamous 70D. I have shot from ISO 3200-12800, so far I been happy with the results. I would like to get a 7DII, but I don't have the money at this time. I might get it when their replacement comes. For now I am making the infamous 70D work for me. Here are some links with pictures I had posted.

As some have suggested in this thread, I would go with the 85mm or 100mm lens.
