Thanks! I'm very chuffed with my chaffinch pic. I love the eerie/eary (pun intended) owl, too. Very nice. Leg on the mend, thanks, but a bit of a way to go yet. Been a long job. Photography is really helping relieve the boredom.

It sounds like you had a serious spill, good to hear your getting around again. Before you know it, you'll be back it in full.

Interesting bird, your Chaffinch, we don't have them here stateside. Cool to see the diversity from abroad! Your photo is, again, super sharp, you nailed it! It's one of those photos that when you see the detail on your monitor, it makes the outing worth it. And that 100-400 II + 80D combo is so good too, right?

Yes, an excellent combination. The 100-400L II is pricey (and heavy) but I am so pleased with it. Taken me a bit of time to fully realise you need to up the ISO to get a fast shutter speed for hand-held use. With the x1.6 factor, the lens is 640mm at full length, of course, and this little bird was quite a distance away. I recently bought a 1.4 extender but haven't really been out with that yet. Nice little bird, the chaffinch. This is a female - the males are more brightly coloured. I thought this one was another variety - a greenfinch - but when I put the pic on Flickr, the experts soon put me right! Thanks for your kind thoughts.
