A friendly wasp with the 100-400II

We were out camping a couple of weeks ago, and this little one flew into my g/f's hair. Since it wasn't acting out or appearing aggressive, I scooped it up and set it down on the table and decided to attempt some close up shooting with this lens to try out the closer focusing distance. I have to say, I'm relatively impressed. Also, bonus points if someone can tell me what type of wasp this is; it isn't one that I'm familiar with...

Thanks Lester! This is the only time I've ever actually held a wasp; it was remarkably docile.

Thanks; definitely not a hornet. They're much...stockier in build; this was much more slender...a paper wasp of some sort, but not hornet.
