Saw a M 55 200 lens in a shop last week and it played on my mind for a week. Yesterday I broke and GAS reared its ugly head. So went in picked it up to compliment my light weight hiking kit instead of the 70 200 F4L. Left the shop walked about 200 yards to the river to try it out. Literally unboxed and screwed on and shot a Heron. I´m fairly happy with the Lens. Its not the sharpest tool in the toolbox but I am admitadly a bit spoilt on that with my other lenses, considering their prices, and this was only 230€. But its amazingly light and compact and because of this will be taking the camera out more on the way to work and generally when am out and about. Plus its unobtrusive so will not be as paranoid using it in town where the larger white lenses stand out like sore thumbs and start me checking all round for any theiving barstewards. Amazingly sharp lenses dont help if you dont take them with you because of their expense and worries of mugging etc.

Heron shot wide open at 6.3 and croped down about 50% I think. Of course subject isolation is not great at that appeture and the pic is pretty much a snapshot would have liked to got down lower but was higher up on the bank and if I had started faffing about too much he would have flown off. Thinking about it if I had had a bigger lens he would have got nervous and flown off. As it was I looked like a typical passerby so he just stood there for a while and wandered off which is another plus point.

Love it!!

I'd like to see Canon give us a similar length lens but faster for M series. Or a long fast prime .....

Thanks Rosey. Sure it would be nice for a long fast prime but ( not sure of the physics) I dont think the weight and size savings would add up to much over the EF mount. About the best (IMO) mid ground at the moment is the 400 F5.6L which balances out quite nicely with the M5 and functions well with the adaptor be it without IS. What may be of interest is the Sigma 100-400mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM C due to its light weight but that all depends on how it works with an adaptor and its picture quality but on the pic quality front it would have to be very good to beat the 400 prime which even though I have 3 400mm lenses I cant bring myself to part with :).

Same Heron wandering off. Horrible heading towards midday light and background way too close but the Heron was a bonus as I went looking for ducks to test the lens.

They're pretty gorgeous shots ... yes understand about trade off weight etc, guess I wasn't thinking of a long long prime ,,, maybe 200. I use my Tamron 90 macro non vc as a prime mainly with the adapter. But of course for birding you need longer. I do have a Tamron 70 - 300 f/4.5 (I think) with variable aperture, but haven't tried it with the adapter yet.

Shot Celebrity Fitness instructor here in NYC....

Used my M5 for snap a few shots.... can't quite put my finger on it, but the EOS M5 does something word to the skin in bright sunlight.... Compared to my 1dx and 5d3, the skin tones on the M5 are a bit weird... here are straight out of camera jpegs!

Sold my 5D3 (already have the 5D4) and picked up the M5 kitted with a lens(15-45) and the adapter. So far, I'm really enjoying this little camera: Shot with M5 and Canon EF24-70mm f/2.8L II USM, f2.8,70mm,1/800s,iso 100

Quick and potentially stupid question, how do I get the metadata to follow when I post a photo ? Thanks. :-)

It will automaticaly. It looks like either the program you are using to process and upload to flickr is stripping it or your flickr settings are hiding it.

Combined with "L" glass this camera rocks ! Also note that I'm happy with the kit lens performance and will most likely pick up the 22mm f2.0. :-)
