Another from Bowling Ball Beach. Patience paid off, waiting for just the right swirls to work through the boulders.

This is great Travis. Awesome leading line. Tones looks spot on to me. I check my tones using Silver FX to ensure I have good tonal range from zones 1 to 9. I try to avoid pure black in zone 0 and pure white in zone 10.

Did you guys read about the Army photographer that died while shooting a live fire mortar excercie? She captured the explosion that killed her and the soldiers around her. Very sad.

Thanks. This is the same thing I have been doing for several years, even if I don't use SilverFX to create at black and white, I always open it in there to check zones...I wish PS would have a filter or tool to do that. Great tool, great for ensuring tonal variations.

wow, that really sad...

but I have to ask, why where they even so close? with todays long lenses and wireless mic, they could be farther away at safe distance.

I really like these a lot. They simultaneously showcase great scenery and tell a nice story.

Thanks! I spent a good bit of time working on the tones...I went between high contrast, to low contrast and settled somewhere in between.

I can really see that. I think you got the perfect balance

Maybe its the perspective. War photographers love to shoot wide angle it seems, so that you can really feel being there. Whatever it was, it was the wrong decision for them that day :-|

lol what wide angle lenses do people use here? I think I may just take the cheap way out and get the 28mm FE. Not many other choices ha

B18 and B25 are my go to now...I have not touched the 17-40L since I got those two...the CV12 gets use from time to time when the scene justifies it. I am an admitted wide angle junkie...

Many options to choose from. Laowa 12, Batis 18, and Loxia 21 are what I use. Voightlander makes some good 10, 12, and 15mm options. The Batis 25mm is also popular if you want AF.

Yeah photojournalism/documentary photography calls for medium-wide angle FOV. Longer lenses compress the background too much and the photos lose context.

I think it was Travis that mentioned this before but apparently firmware version 3.30 should be avoided if you are an astro shooter. Ian over at Lonely Speck is no longer recommending the a7RII or a7sII for astrophotography because of Sony's software spatial filtering update that was embedded in v3.3. It's been called "star eater". This is not good news at all.
