Got this art out to its first wedding this weekend. I would say buy with confidence because things I was concerned about were put to rest this weekend.

1- absolutly no issues getting the lens to lock on a moving target in poor light
2- absolutly no issues with a slow AF like the 85L. it was lighting fast and hit everything I aimed at.
3- Bokeh is wonderful inside and outside
4- I was able to test it out in the rain. Unfortunately it was rain on/off and while we were shooting formals it got really wet. No problems at all
5- 1 was concerned about weight. Did not bother me at all. does feel heavier than the 24-70 on my 1Dx2 but doable
6- was able to test in low light on the 5D3 which everyone knows has poor EV...no problem tracking or getting AF to hit
7- on the 1Dx2, with great EV this 85 art will lock on anything

These pics are straight off files. Nothing done. used it wide open and for some formals at F/3.5. Sharp across the entire frame.

So it passed any situation I could put it in. Very very impressed with the lens. I can confidently say its a few steps ahead of the 85L. AF speed and ability to lock in servo give it a huge edge on the L

Im a very happy camper today

cake shot at 1.8. You shoul;d see the detail in the flowers and cake at 2-300%... really impressive

It's a wonderful lens. Currently the only pitfall I can pick it apart with it's it still suffers from CA wide open.... BUT... it cleans up very nice and doesn't have an affect on the IQ when cleaned up so it just adds a step to processing that it. But a simple dropper and a tick on where you need it and it's done.

Other then that the lens is very impressive and the overall "look" of the image (colors, bokeh, contrast, clarity) is amazing and I truly love every image I take with it.

Talley

wifey and I were fighting over the darn thing:-P

It was a rush to see who was going to grab the 85 for the dance floor shots and detail shots.

I will typically hit this shot with the 135L for a bit more creamy bokeh. But wanted to see how the art would handle it. Very acceptable BUT the 135L will yield a better result. I think both lens have their places for what I do but for a proof file I cant complain at all.

I've been really enjoying my first prime (Sigma 85 1.4 Art) for wedding. I have it on my camera most of the time now. It really adds to a distinct look to my zoom lens (15-30, 24-70 II, 70-200II). I only had room for one prime lens and knew 135 is too long indoor and glad I add 85 Art to my kit.

I recently took the plunge to the Sigma Art series. It started with the 85mm Art, and now there are two other ART lenses competing for space in a
pelican case. (35mm, and 135mm). I have been quite happy with the results thus far. Hopefully the upcoming high school graduation festivities, and some off shore fishing trips will provide opportunities to put the lenses to the test. I have been quite impressed with the 85mm Sigma Art thus far. No issues what so ever in terms of focusing. I am looking to thoroughly wring out the 35mm and 135mm before I use them for paid work.

Regards,

110yd

Nice shots Mike. I wonder what the deal with the 24-70/2.8 OS is. It's kind of been quiet on the release price and date details for a while. I would think that with this 85 or even the 135/1.8 would make a great wedding combo.

I need it. 1 stop would help alot during low light video.

I used my 24-70 a lot this weekend as well. At the end of last year I just got sick and tired of switching primes around for needs especially at the receptions. So as much as I did not care for the 24-70 focal length I reluctantly purchased a 24-70 V2 and sold off the 35L. With my 1Dx2 ISO concerns are never going to be a problem now and at F/2.8 I am pleasantly surprised at how sharp it is across the frame.

I So miss the softer backgrounds the 35L gives so I would be interested in this sigma depending on price. But the 24-70 is really a nice nice lens. I dont have any problems with hand holding it so really dont know what the big fuss is about with IS at this focal length. 1/125 and flash use is going to prevent motion blur for anything I need.

I'm desperately interested in it for video. Used the 24-105 for my kids birthday yesterday and it was more of a low light and that extra stop would reduce the ISO from 12,800 to 6400 would make a big difference in the quality of the images extracted with 4K frame grab.

I'll take the 5D4 and Sigma 24-70 OS Art to Disney with me this year and it'll cover 90% of my needs and I'll be able to video and take photos with that and a speedlight. and the video I'll be able to frame grab since it's it'll not be fast moving stuff like the character meets where I get to capture my youngest daughter reaction and voice for me is becoming more priority and then I can pull an image from that for web sharing and 4x6 printing. Very powerful tool for the average "Dad"

Don't get me wrong nothing would replace a good gryo setup for video but in lens or in body (ahem sony) would be better for travel.

Which makes me want the A9 as second camera for video/travel needs

Thanks!
I was JUST thinking about this lens this weekend when I was shooting a wedding! I like my crop bodies with the Sigma 18-35 1.8 & Sigma 50-100 1.8 but was considering this one to save on weight. The 85 is only about 1lb lighter, but that adds up over 8+ hours!

I love when couples hang lights/decorations like this. Makes for some great bokeh throughout the night!

Passed a big big test this weekend. 4000 ISO F/2.0

tracked perfectly and zero issues handling the dark. My new friend for weddings
