In November 1986, the Blue Angels transitioned from the A-4F Skyhawk to the F/A-18 Hornet. I attended at least one airshow in which they were flying the A-4s. Here are a few photos from back then.

I remember one year there was a motorcycle drag race meet at OCIR the same weekend the El Toro Airshow was going on, I had one of those A4 Blue Angles buzz the drag strip during one of my runs, really put into perspective just how much faster they were than my bike.

That reminds me of the Corvette vs. F18 drag race. The F18 is wheels up @ 300 kts before the 'Vette is even 1/4 way down the runway.

The one on the left is a 1991 C-130H2.5, while the one on the right is a 1965 HC-130P (Born as an HC-130H, but converted to the N version).

Just sayin . . .

Why is the Stars and Stripes the wrong way around of the one on the right?

Flags are always hung from the Stars side. Therefore the one side of the tail will have the flag reversed to show that it is unfurling the direction of the wind, ( opposite the aircraft direction of flight ).

A few shots from the 2011 Wings Over Houston Airshow. Outfit used was a Canon EOS XS DSLR and an EF 75-300mm zoom.

A pair of P-51Ds

A very pretty MiG17 in unusual colors:

The show announcer claimed this Zero has the original Mitsubishi engine.

Consolidated B-24 Liberator

A pair of Corsairs

From what I was able to determine, this beautiful example of an F4 was destined to be used as a target drone. Apparently there was a growing group of people who wanted to change the Air Force's mind regarding the ultimate fate of this aircraft.

And lastly, my best shot of the show -- a Grumman F7 Tiger Cat. What an awesome looking aircraft. I hope they were successful.

Some nice shots there! The Liberator was reverted back to her old livery and now flies as Diamond Lil. I'm fairly certain that MiG flies out of Florida now. Sadly, the P-51 "Galveston Gal" crashed in Oct 2013.

I like the MIG-17. Suggestion lower your shutter for prop planes

Looking at these again is getting me pumped for EAA this year. Pretty excited for the F-35/A-10 heritage flight.

Yeah, after all the air shows I've been to, I know better. I should have been paying closer attention to the shutter speed. Which reminds me. I had to manually enter the EXIF data for the aperture for those shots, so maybe I wasn't shooting with that EF lens after all. If I wasn't, it probably was with my Tamron SP 300mm f/2.8. Problem when shooting with a manual focus, manual aperture lens (using a Nikon F to EOS adapter to mount the Tamron) is I shoot in Aperture priority mode, and typically let the shutter speeds fall where they may. Except at airshows and auto races, of course.
