Whooper Swans. These were taken the first week in May this year. The late ice on the river did me a favour as I was able to get close enough to get printable images this year - both of these will print to A3.

Yesterday afternoon, while scouting George Bush Park, I saw three Mississippi Kites, soaring above the vacant soccer fields. Regrettably, I did not have my extender attached to my 400DOii and they were pretty high. They were hunting and diving on invisible prey, so I parked and walked out into the open and waited for my chances.

This Kite was low and far away. This is nearly a 100% crop but I like it anyway, he seems to be looking right into my lens, eye-to-eye, so to speak.

The Kites were catching dragon flies in mid-air and consuming them, on the wing. This is the best capture of that feeding behavior ever, for me.

These are handheld, 65 point zone focus. Next time, the 1.4X or 2X extender will be attached and ready to go. One of my favorite raptors.

That second picture is amazing!
