OK, here's my re-edit. I adjusted the w/b and removed the magenta from the bowl, rotated the image to level the bowl out and centered it and added a matching background and drop shadow for the heck of it.

Thanks very much. The trouble I have with 'winning' is that it's so hard for me to come up with a decent image to offer as the next challenge. With that being said...

Before and After - The Weekly Editing Challenge
...now compiled into a single, easy to locate thread, that can be added to your subscribe/follow list!

Rules are simple:

  • Download the image file from the current week

  • Contestants will have 7 days to edit the image and post their edited version to the thread by Wednesday, May 24th, 2017.

  • The owner of the original image will choose a winner

  • The winner will copy & paste this post and include a new downloadable image link

The new image must be unedited / SOOC (straight our of camera), full-resolution, and in a RAW format, ie. CR2, DNG, TIF, etc
(Dropbox works well for uploading and linking these large files)

The purpose of this game is to be creative and learn new editing techniques. You must give some insight into exactly how you went about editing the image. For example, increased shadows sliders, reduced highlights, local sharpening, white balance adjustment, specific filters used, tone curve adjustments, etc. Comments and/or questions regarding the edits are encouraged.

Here is the new challenge. Since this is a Sony raw file and some have trouble opening them, I've converted it to dng format.

"Foggy Morning"

My attempt at mixing night and day. (a night-from-day film sim for the background, Ektachrome for the foreground.)

Tried to bring out some of the rich colors in the background without losing the fog.

My first attempt. I have another idea. I'll have to work on when I get more time. Cropped for comp and basically just pushed the contrast and clarity all the way in LR. I like overly crisp automotive edits.

Lots of variety in the edits this week. Because Mozes went in a different direction than I did on my original edit, I'll choose his edit as the pick for this week. And because Benitoite's edit is the closest to mine, I'll choose his edit as the runner-up. :-)

Congrats Mozes, you're at the helm for the next challenge.

P.S. Here's my original edit for comparison.
