Clear drinks- I agree with the level of difficulty, or at a minimum, the perception that something is amiss- especially so in a martini glass- it can get weird fast!. In video, the eye doesn't have the same opportunity to *linger* as it does in a still shot and consequently all of the refractions/reflection​s, etc. can become an issue when you're forced to focus your attention on the glass and it's contents. It all depends on the client and what their perceptions and experiences are imo.

I shoot an iPad menu a few times a year. Each item is silo'd on white with a drop shadow....it's used in a theater chain that serves food and beverages. Tap the image and it get's large with a description....the *look* that the client likes is really very specific and feels that additional elements in the glass are a distraction to the contents. I build a very specific set for shooting the drinks and often use cut out's behind the glass (which take a lot of time to construct and place)- gets me about 90% where I want the drinks to be. I also typically frost the surface of the glass as well as a fair amount of post editing to arrive at what we thing it *should* look like...even if it doesn't in real life. ;-)a

The Macallan 10 Year Old Fine Oak Scotch whisky

I haven't tried this triple cask matured whisky yet but am looking forward to trying it tonight.

Great info, what are you using to frost the glasses? dulling spray?

A few different things will work but IMO, the most natural is to first apply a very light coating of vaseline (the stylist uses a make-up sponge to 'dab' this on) and then spray a light mist with a water/glycerin mixture, but in a pinch you can skip the first step or even just use water in a spray bottle that produces a fine mist. The glycerin helps it to last on set without drying out too quickly. It's key to apply only to the liquid level, not the entire front of the glass. In addition to masking a lot of irregularities in the liquid from refractions, it also helps to communicate *cold* while still keeping the front of the glass transparent and not frosted like dulling spray would do.

Here's an example of a martini in the 'white world' I mentioned, where the client wants only the liquid content showing. Spritzed to hint at cold as well as to help diffuse the refractions that naturally occur in a martini glass (bear in mind though that I've built a set very specific to shooting these to minimize the refractions as much as possible from the start). I also like to add bubbles as indicative of a freshly poured drink (done with an eye dropper).

A buddy of mine had some old wood at his place and he was kind enough to make two panels for me, both around 24 inches square to use like this. This was my 1st time using them. The joints are pretty wide on one of them so I used a piece of black foam core board behind it.

I'm not sure what's going on with the unlevel tequila other than I was a bit rushed when I took this shot.

Haha and that was before the tequila! I was going to say something about that but you said it was a quick shot. Its an easy fix in PS though.

I hope no one minds that this isn't a cocktail but here's one more using the wood panels. I'm also including a pullback after the shoot to show how it was set up.

I swirled the beer in the glass using a wooden chopstick just before I made the exposure. There's something in the wood that really makes the head 'explode' and I overdid it a bit. -?

Thanks. No, the condensation on the bottle is due to it coming straight from the refrigerator. The glass is straight out of the freezer so the condensation there is natural too.

I used an empty bottle and glass to dial in the light locations and exposure, then replaced them with the real deal just before I shot. I do have a spray bottle with 50% glycerin and 50% water but didn't use it for the beer since I was trying to have a freshly poured glass included in the shot.

I especially like the staging of your cocktail shots. I wish I had access to more 'props' for my images like that.
