Looking to pickup a 70-200 f/2.8 IS II USM. A while back I took advantage of some Canon deals to pickup refurb bodies. Any deals?

Thanks in advance

Have you done the basic checks yourself? See https://shop.usa.canon.com …lashes/refurbished-lenses (external link).

B&H at https://www.bhphotovideo.com …ses/ci/18979/N/4112501918 (external link) and Adorama at https://www.adorama.com …?sel=FilterBy_refurbished (external link).

Also, check the availability of the independents people, like Sigma at https://www.sigmaphoto.com/sigma-outlet/shop-lenses (external link).

Yes I did.

Canon has been out of stock for a while.

Adorama has a used one, but not comfortable buying anything with their good rating

"Barrel appears to have been used heavily, showing multiple dings, scrapes/scratches, heavy brassing. Lens glass may have fungus, excessive dust, and/or scratches that can affect picture quality."

What's not to like? If you buy refurb from Canon directly (or one of their authorized dealers) you get a lens that's guaranteed to work, comes with any original accessories, and has the same warranty as a new lens. All of my refurbished gear has looked brand new with not a scratch. You can get some pretty good deals especially with their extra 10% off or so sales throughout the year. The only difference I've found is that it doesn't come in a pretty box. Big deal. If it's that big of a deal, buy an OEM box from eBay for $10.

It's personal preference, but I'd much rather buy refurb than take a chance on a used item if the price is the same.

As far as finding refurbs. If you're not in a hurry to get the lens you can set up an alert on http://www.CanonPriceWatch.com (external link) and you'll get an alert when it comes in stock. The 70-200 II tends to sell out pretty quickly once they're in stock, so the alert really helps to grab one especially if there's an additional sale code.

Review this thread (https://photography-on-the.net …showthread.php?p=18350753) for a pretty positive experience on an eBay new lens purchase. Then check the sellers link at http://www.ebay.com …06efd3:g:bWgAAOSwOgdYpEN- (external link) where the lens you want is for sale. I don't have any feel if the price of US$1768 is good or bad.

Explore the options from other vendors as well, http://www.ebay.com …26sd%3D262463221715&rt=nc (external link) for instance at $1720.

Note these do not have a Canon Warranty but the vendor usually supplies return privileges and a 3rd party warranty.
