as long as I am at ISO100, i like the 1 stop underexposed. it will avoid getting hotspots. I was on Manual mode on the xplor yesterday though. Me too I've been using the extension eversince i got it.

Yes better to underexpose the light as it's easier to push the exposure on your subject in post than to clear-up hot spots.

I still underexpose both the ambient exposure and the flash exposure out in the field and push the exposure in post to preserve highlights in the background. The one thing I manipulate is the spread between the FEC and the camera EC to control the contrast between the subject and the environment.

That would be good...I have zero interest in 60-70 megapixels. :)

Really, I'll be shocked if Sony announces anything that makes me want to move past my a7R II anytime soon. For my wants - a reasonably high resolution and wide dynamic range cityscape, landscape, and streetscape camera, the a7R II is just about perfect. Hate the short-lived battery and wish there was a joystick or touch screen, but other than that I am still completely loving the camera and hope I'm still using it 8 years from now (want a good 10-year life out of it).

I really wish the fujifilm and Olympus will join the fullframe race with the vintage body style.

Cameras have really reached the point where their capabilities go far beyond the needs and skillset of most photographers. 20FPS is excessive. So is 70mp. While I need a body that is more responsive than the a7rII for certain uses, I also see myself shooting with the a7rII for a while.

While 60 or 70 mp would be a nice thing to have, I'd be more interested in upgrading to a new camera for better battery life, touch screen, an LCD that pivots either to the side or top of the camera for video, and a third wheel on top of the camera to be able to access more functions there as opposed to reverting to the menu. Even a 2nd memory card slot would fall into the "nice to have" catagory for me.

Of course, any upgrade I'd make at this point is highly dependent on how proud Sony is of an upgraded camera and how much they feel they need to charge for it based on new features.

i doubt the A7RIII price will scare me away. Sony likes to raise the bar of their cameras as well as their prices.

question for the tech friends here.

Do full frame sensor gather more light than a crop sensor because it's bigger given the same exact settings? or Do bigger sensor gather more light than a smaller sensor?

Go!

yep, if you google crop factor equivalence youll get a lot of pages that try to explain. In a gist though, if you take the iso of a crop camera, multiply the crop factor twice then youll get the equivalent iso of a full frame. I think what needs to be stressed though is that the brightness level may seem to be equivalent but the noise pattern isnt

so if you have a micro 4/3s camera set to iso 100. 100 *2 * 2 = ISO 400 from a full frame

Haha same. The a7rii is for good but found myself looking at x100f again last night

The last time i felt i had a camera for good was when i had my 5d3... i swore id have it for yearssss..
I think i maybe hit 9 months, ..

The a7sii has many boxes checked for me .. small enough, does great video video.. and oh clean high iso videos.. as long as i expose properly i can be at iso 50,ooo and stil get acceptable rrsults.
With a small lens like my fe 28 its nice to take to a night out in the city with my gf , or a street fair or what ever situation where photos ar3 casual..and it doesnt weigh me down..or become annoying to carry like the 5d3 did

Where im not happy with it is , when AF speed becomes important , (no surprise there tho)
Af lock is unpredictable once not in good lighting .. which agian, for casual situations its fine but for those "need this moment now!" Mom3nts it has left me frustrated ..
Changing af points also kinda slow for me..
And the 12mp are becoming annoying ..

And so in comes the a6500, i originally was going to keep my a7sii and give fuji a try as well but decided to give the A6xx line a second chance for the sake of staying with one brand and being able to share lenses ..
The a6500 with its touch screen, changing af points is easy.. af tracking is quick
But the rear screen is difficult in bright sun light.
Ergonomics are not fun,, its not a fun camera to use . Takes great photos and video but not fun to use ..
I find the lack of a third dial slows me down.
Lack of proper apsc lenses

I know the perfect do it all camera doesnt exist ..
But i would like to find one camera that does things well for me , with compromises in the right places for my needs..one camera that does travel photography well, quick and easy to use for street , decent video , durable and weather resistant ..doenst have to have 50mp , twenty something is fine ..
I keep hearing lots of good things about fujis xt2,
Ive tried canon, panasonic and sony
I dont know if i could get rid of my a7sii , its low light ability
Is too good..
But i dont think it could be my only camera

Anyways.. end of my rant :p

Honestly, I'd give the a7rII a try if I were you. It's a really well rounded camera....almost as good of a "do it all" camera as the 5DIII was. The only real downside is that its a little on the sluggish side, particularly compared to the a6500, but not terrible. More than good enough for a lot of things.

Yah 70mp is overkill. I hope they will focus on dynamic range and AF speed. If i follow my editing style of uncompressed raw 16bit ProPhoto RGB and keeping the layered PS file, it might be more than 1 gig per file or more.
