Sony Pro Service and Precision Camera get it done! Granted I sent my rx1rii in for the light leak recall and I think they simply replace the unit outright, but still really fast turn around. I first called Sony Monday.

My camera and lens are coming today too. they shipped it yesterday. Overnight back and forth shipping for free. Got good experience. Carlo I already emailed them asking what went wrong with the 85G. I also asked why they need to replaced the board of my RII. I just told them for future reference. Replied in less than 5minutes but still asking the technician. Just an acknowledgement they got my question.

Yes they're responsive. I mean stuff breaks and needs to get repaired. I've sent my 5diii, 70-200II and 24-70II for service before but never got the level of attention from CPS as I did Sony. Like we discussed on PM though, their systems aren't nearly as sophisticated (i.e. registering equipment via a spreadsheet you email to them vs a web portal)

Paid overnight shipping both ways is nice too. With CPS the whole process takes 3-4 weeks.

The last time i felt i had a camera for good was when i had my 5d3... i swore id have it for yearssss..
I think i maybe hit 9 months, ..

The a7sii has many boxes checked for me .. small enough, does great video video.. and oh clean high iso videos.. as long as i expose properly i can be at iso 50,ooo and stil get acceptable rrsults.
With a small lens like my fe 28 its nice to take to a night out in the city with my gf , or a street fair or what ever situation where photos ar3 casual..and it doesnt weigh me down..or become annoying to carry like the 5d3 did

Where im not happy with it is , when AF speed becomes important , (no surprise there tho)
Af lock is unpredictable once not in good lighting .. which agian, for casual situations its fine but for those "need this moment now!" Mom3nts it has left me frustrated ..
Changing af points also kinda slow for me..
And the 12mp are becoming annoying ..

And so in comes the a6500, i originally was going to keep my a7sii and give fuji a try as well but decided to give the A6xx line a second chance for the sake of staying with one brand and being able to share lenses ..
The a6500 with its touch screen, changing af points is easy.. af tracking is quick
But the rear screen is difficult in bright sun light.
Ergonomics are not fun,, its not a fun camera to use . Takes great photos and video but not fun to use ..
I find the lack of a third dial slows me down.
Lack of proper apsc lenses

I know the perfect do it all camera doesnt exist ..
But i would like to find one camera that does things well for me , with compromises in the right places for my needs..one camera that does travel photography well, quick and easy to use for street , decent video , durable and weather resistant ..doenst have to have 50mp , twenty something is fine ..
I keep hearing lots of good things about fujis xt2,
Ive tried canon, panasonic and sony
I dont know if i could get rid of my a7sii , its low light ability
Is too good..
But i dont think it could be my only camera

Anyways.. end of my rant :p

This, this, and this again! The a6500 is not fun to use in any way imaginable. I've done my best to get all necessary functions programed to buttons but it is still quite cumbersome to use. The overall crappy shooting experience coupled with a few other downsides will likely put the a6500 on the chopping block after a year or so. Things I dislike include 1/4000 max SS, 1/160 max sync speed, tiny/dim/not fully articulating LCD, no joystick, just to name a few.

To be perfectly candid Cory, the 6000 series does not appear to me to be fun in the least. If I wanted an APS-C camera (and I don't), I'd get a Panasonic or Fuji. The main upside for Sony users over those manufacturers is you get an upgrade path to full frame. Get an a7 series and be happ(ier/)y. :)

Yes the ergonomics/controls were a turn off for me with the a6500. Which is a shame because the hardware, performance, and IQ are all there. I loved everything else about it.

Yeah....I've mentioned it here and there already....but my main goal was to get into a very small set up this would be very portable. I was not taking larger DSLRs out anywhere just cause of the bulk. I really like how small the a6500 is, but that has definitely come at the expense of user experience. When I was making the change I didn't want to spend the $ on the A7rII/FF lenses. I also found it to still be a little bulky. I really wish I would have looked at the X-T2 as it seems like it would be a more fun camera to use with a few better features all wrapped up in a pretty small package. Alas....I impulsively dove in head first. I'll give it a year.

star eater fix is there, but I havent verified. If you're on 3.30, no reason to keep it, get 4.0.

I swear that the magnification when manual focusing seems sharper as well?

AF with A6300 style floating point, skip to 5:45:

Charlie, I'm a bit confused (no surprise there) about this. Does the new firmware update for the a7rII offer a new way to move the focus point around? I've always found it frustrating that I can only seem to turn on the ability to select the focus point when using the spot focus point when I first select that focusing mode. Once I click on the wheel button to set that point, I can't move the selected point by pressing the wheel button a 2nd time.

Yep basically gives the same setting as the a6300/6500. Im very happy about this upgrade. What a weird time we are now in - Sony getting their act together with pro support and repairs and now giving firmware updates to fix actual user issues! Who would have thought

It's a wannabe serious photo gear manufacturer transforming into a serious photo gear manufacturer, and it's great for us all. :)

yeah , i kept mine simple lol... because i didn't want to make it seem like i was bashing the camera when i know there are people here who use it ..like i said images out of this camera (stills or video) or awesome ...the tech in the camera is great .. Auto focus tracking !!.. evf , 4k video , etc.. but to me half the fun in this hobby is the tool we choose and learning its insides and outs , etc.. and with this camera that part has been more like learning chemistry or calculus as an older student rather than sex ed in junior high school
i mean I've had other cameras that excited me just to hold..
i mean every camera I've had has brought some level of excitement .. but this one has brought on the least enthusiasm from me in that sense..
again, the end results in images are very good ,,,
but exactly as you said ,"cumbersome " is the word that describes using it , and i have tried as you have to customize to make it work but.. anyways.., i had it for sale for a quick minute and then never bumped the trhead because i wanted to give it a chance .. but i think i'm about to look up the thread and bump it to the top , give a more attractive price and see..

I've read nothing but great reviews about the xt2 and what a pleasure it is to use.. lots of the regular youtubers i watch saying they own one , and makes a great travel camera and all arounder , while they still have something else for more "professional " work..
and then there are lots of Pros using it too
Maybe i go that way...
or maybe back to canon , 5d3 probably ...

i'm 99% sure no matter what i do i'm keeping the a7sii , i really do enjoy this camera..i find it very fun to use in very casual situations..or even some types of portraits , slower paced situations..perfect camera for when on vacation and want to keep it simple , say staying at a resort and going down for dinner or walk on the beach . low light type situations etc.. anytime quick af is not super important basically
I think it has its place with me .. theres just a void in other areas..

i'm sure the a7rii is a great camera.. i just don't know that it will fill in the void .. who knows

Nice series Vinz. It seems like the w/b is inconsistent for the rocks in the background though.
