Just as with cameras and many other things, sometimes you need more than one kind. I have three or four tripods. One of them is plenty stable, but heavy and awkward. I also have a couple of smaller ones that are kind of wobbly, but still hold a camera steadier than I could.

Very true. I keep my cheap one in the camper and don't worry if it gets beat around a bit.

$96. I would just suggest that when you get it go over the fasteners and put clear nail polish on the critical points that are always to be tight.
