My week in the Eastern Sierra and Death Valley ended up being one of the wettest those areas had seen in many years. It was not what I was hoping for but the flipside was that as the storm fronts rolled in and out it made for some very dramatic skies.

Those storm clouds were on full display here at the Eureka Dunes. The clouds were rolling over and down the Last Chance Mountains and then crashing down on the dunes like a tidal wave.

For the hour or so that I was there a family of three were playing and enjoying the views from along the tops of the dunes and they really gave a sense of scale to these, the tallest dunes in California.

This has happened to me a couple of times in Big Bend, once in Death Valley. I'm slowly learning not to be disappointed if a shot I want isn't going to happen... Another shot will, and it might be unique. Never seen one like this from Eureka Dunes, for instance... Great shot.

Truly a fantastic image, mostly thanks to the silhouette! Congrats.

There is something about falling water that is just so tranquil that I can just sit and zone out for hours looking and listening to the song the water makes as it crashes over the rocks. Many millennia of falling water has carved and sculpted that central rock into a really interesting shape that showcases the ribbons of water flowing over its surface. This was taken in the Columbia Gorge last fall.

Should really be viewed on black, click the flickr (external link) link to do so.
