Or $400 more for the Canon? Still a tough decision. I was hoping to be surprised with a lower price to make my decision easier. This may just be one to wait on for reviews.

there is still no price in the UK, but at that difference it is a difficult decision

i agree, makes sense to wait for reviews.

hmm, imaginative exchange rate. Let's hope the lens can live up to the price

its pricing means, like me, i think people are going to wait to see what its like rather than take a gamble on it

if it were less, i might have had a go but im waiting

I couldn't wait and jumped on a Canon 24-70 II. I guess I can always swap them if the Sigma is better, but from what I hear I don't believe that will happen. But an option...

This will be the deciding factor for me. It seems worded in a way to be gentle since it's on Sigma's site....

'Autofocus is extremely zippy in daylight, and is still quite responsive in very dim conditions so long as there’s a somewhat decent contrast edge to detect.'
somewhat decent....not that reassuring choice of words. Will it grab focus on a wedding dress or a tux for the 1st dance in dark reception spaces?? When only the flashy DJ lights are on, or during an outdoor wedding with only limited string lights illuminating the dancing. This is the downfall of our current Tam 24-70.

Yeah a bit too sales-ish sounding for me. I'm looking forward to some user reviews. Got yours yet Talley?

I sold my Sigma 18-35 f/1.8 Art last week as AF did not perform well in dim light. Bought a used Canon 24-105 F/4 for the time being which does a much better job in dim light. I do want a faster lens with better optical quality. Figured I wouldn't loose much if any on the 24-105 and after 6-12 months of reviews I can then decide what direction to go:

Canon 24-70 F/2.8 - no stabilization - $1,750
Sigma 24-70 F/2.8 Art - has stabilization - $1,299
Tamron 24-70 F/2.8 G2 - has stabilization - $1,199

Canon has refurbs in stock for $1500+tax currently. Should save you about $100 over brand new. Still comes with a warranty so that's also an option.

Good plan. I really want that stabilization, but decided to just go with a used Canon 2.8 II. And even though I don't have it yet, assumed I would be 100% set on selling the 24-105 II. But, even though they seem very redundant, I may keep both. That 24-105 is just a ridiculously useful range...I use the entire spread all the time. And of course the IS works really well.
