yes, from 2015, I have no use for the A9 super fast burst speed, also at that price, if only the 1Dx is lighter that is a better buy, no I am not going to Fuji,The Sony A9 $4297 price is too pricey for that camera, a Leica M10 is only $6895
Thanks, I drove from Las Vegas and came bac.k thru route 66

going to St Louis, passed thru Arches National park

Sony A9 review from B&H "But there were always those niggly caveats- not as sharp, less dynamic range, noise in the shadows. But putting that out of my mind, I gulped hard and plopped down $5k for the a9, grip, and battery. B&H put it in my hands in 24hours! Five Steps Forward: the focus is like a bullet. It can see eyes and faces everywhere. The joystick is great, but using the touch screen to set the focus point is even greater. Such a huge improvement over the a7rii. Silent shutter- be still my heart. What a joy to use... Two Steps Back: the image quality just isn't there. My testing- much less sharp, more noise particularly in the shadows. No way can I make excuses on such an expensive camera. In case anyone is wondering, I'm using good lenses: 24-70 GM and Zeiss 55/1.8. I Certainly can't fault Sony because they told us what this camera is for. I found very quickly that I don't need the super high frame rate. So this puppy has to go back which makes me sad. But now I can dream of the a7riii/a9r that will have these wonderful features and great IQ with the speed of my Prius, not a Lamborghini. I hope this help others in their $5k decision."

NO news on A7R3

Tony

You need a good solar filter. I made my own using Baader mylar and use Thousand Oaks solar glass filter, To shoot totality you have to drive south, initially I was thinking of shooting from 1 hour south of St Louis, but changed and now planning to drive to Kirby Idaho, read my blog on this topic

NO news on A7R3

Good to hear from you Tony :)

I myself am not interested in the a9 for the same reason, the price is ridiculously expensive. They priced the original a7 fairly and got a lot of people to invest in their brand and raised the price high on the a7ii and everything else. I am waiting to hear news and price for the a7r3 and will jump on that depending on the cost. I like the original a7 because of it's size. It's funny how a lot of people want a smaller camera and then complain it's too small and want it to be bigger. Also with the lens, they complain there is no fast primes or zooms and when they come out with it, its big and heavy and they complain about that. It also brings it closer to the size of a dslr and from my point of view, why bother changing into mirrorless?

from the rumors, the a7r3 is said to be somewhat similar to the a9 without the fps. I'm hoping the price won't be too crazy and hope they will have that extra wheel on the top left like the a9 that they 'borrowed' the idea from Nikon. :P

Nice to see familiar names, but I noticed a few folks seem to have been quiet also over the last few years...where is Jdizzle?

I am sharing my blog on the evolution of my gears and it is time to be on the lookout to upgrade, but no news on the A7R3.

at the A9 price, plus the high prices of the new G lenses, maybe it is time to move to a Leica M10

i'm not sure where Julien is
love the read and gear changes and slimming down. the pic with two canon dslr and white lens always tells me that you are ready for war hehehe.

i just handled the a7r2 and the focus is a lot faster than the original and it doesn't hunt as much. i had the new acquired 70-200 2.8 lens attached. that lens is heavy! w/o the grip my hands would get sore and uncomfortable, gotta have a grip with the heavier lens. using the sony grip portrait mode doesnt feel the same, the grip is more narrow and it doesnt feel that comfortable. but it helps alot in landscape mode when shooting with a heavy lens.

I'm going to wait for the a7r3 and if that doesnt work for me I will definitely upgrade to a a7r2. faster af and ibis.
