ironic I have to use an iphone6S+ to shoot the camera family group picture, the Leica M10 now leads the pack, with Sony and Canon as backup

i love cruise! well i've only gone once but the one down side is that after a few days, all the food starts to taste the same. other then that, great and relaxing experience.

have you gone to Italy before? im thinking you have hehe, how long has it been since your last visit if so.

I have been to Italy many times since 1977, the last visit 6 years ago. On cruises, you have to go to the many specialty restaurants and I hate set sittings we like Norwegian free style cruising no need to dress up etc,

Neato. I'll be at one of the parks in Tennessee, right in the path of totality. Making a special trip for this one. I'm thinking of using my Nikon p900 for zoomed shots, like your first one. Any particular suggestions on filters to use? I should probably start ordering that stuff. I picked up a cheap Samsung Gear 360 camera, and I'm thinking of setting it take a 360 video--should look interesting.

With the a7ii I'm thinking of using an UWA lens or a fisheye to video the changing landscape. I'm guessing that even with a 12mm-16mm lens, as long as the sun is in frame, it's probably not safe to record for several minutes without an ND filter attached. Maybe I should just stick a tele lens on it and forget about the landscape. First time I'll be seeing a total eclipse--not quite sure how I'll prep for it.

cool, what lens did you get? i'm waiting on the a7riii news and may jump to that. placed a rental order for the a7rii for next weekend so ill get to try that. just bought the 70-200 that will arrive on Monday :D

ive stuck with the original a7r since it was released with 3 lens. 35 2.8, 55 1.8, 24-7 f4. so the 70-200 2.8 will be a nice present for the long wait as well as my very first 70-200 2.8 ever! only had f4 previously.

Tony N. hasnt been around, he would be the one to ask for ellipse. I think you can find him on FB though, last I heard he's active on Instagram :P

I've cut back quite a bit so far as camera equipment is concerned. Traded in the big lenses, and I've been satisfied enough with my Nikon p900 bridge camera. For the a7ii I've got the sony 28mm (it's fantastic for a $500 lens!!) paired with the UWC and fish lenses, and the sony 24-70. I've been thinking about the 70-300, but at some point I'll probably just get a mount adapter and pickup another Sigma 50-500.

I still have my a6000 (and another of E-mount APSC lenses), along with a nex 5n for backup. They haven't gotten much use since I've started playing with the A7.

I've noticed that the price of used Canon dslr lenses has gone down down down these last 2 years... I imagine that corresponds with the rise of mirrorless. I'm almost tempted to start buying Canon lenses again to go with a metabones adapter. I have no intention of buying Canon bodies again though.

wide angle even 50 mm will not work, to make the composite I think a longer lens is required, the duration of the eclipse is from 1158 to 254 so you can test how wide that sun would have moved in 3 hours see here the start and end in Nashville https://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/in/usa/nashville (external link)

I would recommend Thousand Oaks solar filter some are fitted like ordinary camera filter for varying lens diameter. I als made using Baader solar mylar, so cheap to bauy, both these check at Amazon

here is my DIY mylar filter
