It says the 6D has 104,000 screen dots and 6D2 has 1,040,000.

Can someone explain why such a difference? Because of the articulating touchscreen?

Original 6D from Canon....

The EOS 6D's 3.0" TFT LCD monitor has 1,040,000 dots...

I believe the resolution is the same on both cameras. Your 104,000 reference is incorrect. That would be a very low resolution screen.

That's what I was thinking. I got the numbers off of a website that was doing a specs comparison. I think they just made a mistake.

I see reviews like this against the 5D3 and then I notice the price at the bottom. How could they get all the specs of an unreleased camera correct but can't get the price that is clearly on multiple reliable sites correct. Makes me question the whole article.

I use touch screen focus all the time now on my 5d4 and I cant emphasize how great it is, and that camera has a fixed screen. the 5d4 is a battery hog like no camera I've ever used before, especially in live view.

my 80d has the swivel screen and I have not used it much and as an old guy i'm resisitant to change but I think it's a great feature.

You might instead have it on your smartphone screen and not even have to line up a tilty/flippy.

Problem is, my smart phone has a dumb user:oops:
I have never been able to figure out how to "download an app", let alone get my phone to "talk to" other devices. I've tried to do this stuff over and over again, and am always met with some kind of roadblock that I cannot overcome. So, as nice as it'd be to use the phone, I don't aticipate that I will ever be able to figure out how to get that technology to work for me.

Having used a 60D for several years prior to my acquisition of the 7D Matk II, I had plenty of experience with an articulating screen, albeit not a touch screen. My personal expedience was that although I used the articulating LCD often but far from all the time when shooting video, I rarely used it at all for stills. I can see using it to avoid lying down in the dirt, or for macro use, or when lifting your camera over your head to shoot over a crowd, or when forced to shoot in some other awkward scenario. However I rarely found the need to use it based on what I shot and only missed it a few times on my 7DII. For some I think this may be an important feature. But generally for most people, I'm guessing it will only be used occasionally or even rarely.

I actually think that I would use the articulating screen a whole lot. Why do I think this? Because the touchscreen focus would actually change the way that I shoot. The way I do it now, with selecting AF points, is quite cumbersome and time-consuming. And I still fail to get it exactly right all the time.

The touch focus thing seems like it would be so awesome that I could see myself using it for the majority of my shooting. This would necessitate that I change from being an optical viewfinder user to a liveview user. I absolutely hate using liveview now, but touch focus would make it worth the change.

.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

I was thinking about a 5Dmk4 and an articulating screen is important to me. So I tried the smartphone thing with my M5 to see if it was workable for me. it worked, but it was way less convenient than just having an articulating screen, enough that I passed on a 5dmk4.

Sometimes it is the dumb design and/or the dumb failure to provide sufficient documentation by the manufacturer, not a dumb user!
A few months ago I had problems connecting my Motorola phone via USB to transfer photos to my PC for editing...it turns out I had to first configure the use of the USB port of the phone itself, to enable the phone to be SEEN by other devices as a virtual harddrive. I learned that only after calling my Verizon phone carrier's tech support, as documentation was absent even from a downloaded PDF.

All of the nitpicking on this thread and I'm over here just over the moon that Canon finally released this beast. When the 6D came out it was the answer to all I had been wanting - a great Canon sensor in the simplest package possible (replacing my old 5Dc).. just an excellent lightbox. Preordering this guy to perfectly compliment my 1DX.

Yes ... something you have mentioned before ... but, if you were to discover shooting in Live View actually worked for you, it would be further possibility to mull over. I guess not so useful if you are already using a hide or have good cover but there might be times when it would be handy to get further away from the camera. (I really don't know ... I know the stuff that you are photographing ... but I don't know much about how you are doing it.)

And I was over here just thinking what a crippled POS and started looking at how long before the A7iii comes out and how fast will it AF with my canon lenses so I canon move into their eco system gradually.

I can see that the tilty/flippy screen is going to be much more straightforward in most situations (shooting from low/high angles and anything hand held) ... how many hands does one person have after all?

If what you are doing entails mounting a heavy camera-lens combination on a tripod and then leaving it in a static position, I'd have thought it might be more useful (like having a wireless remote release with the added benefit of a viewer). I've tested the smartphone thing myself ... enough to satisfy myself that it works technically ... but I've never actually tried to use it to take real photographs.
