I pooped today

Looks like you're fishing for a new title.

.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

I can see that the tilty/flippy screen is going to be much more straightforward in most situations (shooting from low/high angles and anything hand held) ... how many hands does one person have after all?

If what you are doing entails mounting a heavy camera-lens combination on a tripod and then leaving it in a static position, I'd have thought it might be more useful (like having a wireless remote release with the added benefit of a viewer). I've tested the smartphone thing myself ... enough to satisfy myself that it works technically ... but I've never actually tried to use it to take real photographs.

yeah it works fine for that purpose. I use it for hand held low/odd angles.

Like this shot I was crouched down holding the camera low on the edge of a rock jutting out in the water. If I had to lay down to look through the viewfinder I would be laying in the water.

the "start with sony segment" is very small, especially in this forum, where the entire sony section is comprised of former canon shooters (this was a canon only forum for a while).

Regardless of the absolute size of 'start with Sony' populace, my point was mainly that Sony has had a very strong presence among professionals for video over the decades, so if Canon was 'losing share' in video due to a lesser video capability than current Sony mirrorless, that change to Sony for better professional video is hardly prefaced by Sony mirrorless video capability.

First, will I get one - most likely no at the current price point. I guess that makes this post pointless but

I keep seeing $2k for the body, I wish. Taxes included I'm pushing $3k for body (in Canada) but I have no short glass for FF so...
6D mk2 + 24-105L v2 is 75% of the price of the 5D4 + lens ????? Maybe this is Canon's plan: get people to spend just that little bit more.

After reading about half the posts This thread seems to have more abrasive/condescending posts than any other thread I have read on p.o.t.n. in the almost three years I have been coming here. Not sure why this release is bringing out the worst in people.

Problem is, my smart phone has a dumb user:oops:
I have never been able to figure out how to "download an app", let alone get my phone to "talk to" other devices. I've tried to do this stuff over and over again, and am always met with some kind of roadblock that I cannot overcome. So, as nice as it'd be to use the phone, I don't aticipate that I will ever be able to figure out how to get that technology to work for me.

.

I actually think that I would use the articulating screen a whole lot. Why do I think this? Because the touchscreen focus would actually change the way that I shoot. The way I do it now, with selecting AF points, is quite cumbersome and time-consuming. And I still fail to get it exactly right all the time.

The touch focus thing seems like it would be so awesome that I could see myself using it for the majority of my shooting. This would necessitate that I change from being an optical viewfinder user to a liveview user. I absolutely hate using liveview now, but touch focus would make it worth the change.

.

So you'll being doing most of your shooting in Live View on a tripod rather than handheld through the viewfinder? That's cool. We all have our preferred way of shooting. I can't see much value focusing on the LCD screen handheld, but I'm sure some will try it.

I dont even know how that would work trying to handhold and focus using the touchsreen unless youre using really high shutter speed.
But its still another option or method

I can see using it with a tripod or if you have three arms. But to use it effectively, depending on the size of your target, you would first have to magnifify the LCD so your touch to focus will be precise. Think focusing on the eye of a deer.

I think people would like to have a go at canon but canon doesn't listen to the likes of us so they have a go with each other.

never once has canon been asked me a single questions and I am very important!

Handheld with a tilty/flippy with camera at waist height??? That's similar to the way that you would use an old style medium format camera or a box brownie. That gives you another camera angle/position with the body well braced. I imagine it might be handy for street photography.

Anyway ... it's an option.

Wow, it's 2012 all over again !

Loads of handbag swinging going on. Love it !

Anyhoo, I'll more than likely get one of these in a year or two when they hit the used market at a decent price. I'm only buying camera gear used these days as I have grown-up things to spend money on as well.

The 6D2 is pretty much what I expected it to be, spec-wise. Quite happy with what it offers, the biggest ones being the articulated screen and new sensor. The only thing that I'd prefer to have is a better spread of AF points, but even with what it has, it's a massive improvement over the Mk1.

I don't really care about card transfer speed or dual card slots. I use a card reader and I have trouble filling one 64Gb card nevermind two. Never had a Sandisk memory card fail on me once.

And I couldn't give a crap about 4K.

Haha, that reminds me of the Monty Python sketch of the Batley Townswomen Guild's Pearl Harbor reenactment!

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

I'm with you on the 4K thing.
I'd rather Canon had done more with the touch enabled screen on my 1Dx2 than bother with video.

That said, I'm not a pro and I guess they have a use for that sort of malarkey.

Anyone want to guess on how long it takes for Adobe to update Lightroom so you can edit 6D 2 raw files?

I would be in support of this if manufacturers were charging accordingly...but take a look at the Nikon Df (video "stripped") and its introduction price and longstanding lack of discount and the idea doesn't seem so hot anymore.

I finally got around to looking at the Df. Hardly a featureless, all-manual, no-frills camera. If Canon stripped video from the 1DX2, would you expect it to sell for $500?

My reference was to an all manual, no modes, no AF, no AE, no meter, no nothing full frame digital camera. All I want is a 20mp (or so) full frame sensor, an OFF/ON switch, a shutter speed dial, an aperture dial, and a shutter button. No top-deck display. No rear LCD. I don't even need a card slot. Give it a USB port and sell it to me for $500.

To be sure, I could put my 6D into manual mode, forgo all the auto-stuff and simulate this kind of shooting. I could also drive a Ruf CTR down the 'bahn at 50 kph. Pretty sure that'll never happen, either.

Back more years than I care to admit, I had a camera I could shoot all day WITH A DEAD BATTERY. The battery only powered the meter, and that is not essential to properly exposing a roll of film.
