Thanks. It's a focus-pulling technique. You manually twist the focus ring while the fireworks are going off.

#1 is from my city's 60th anniversary celebration last week. First time I ever got close enough to shoot at 24mm:

#2 is from the 4th a few years ago at another location. They keep putting buildings in the way.

Went to the fireworks in Fairfield, Connecticut with my fiancee last night and brought my 80D and 18-135 to capture some of the fun. This was my first attempt photographing fireworks, but I think they came out great considering.

A few shots from tonight's fireworks show in Ormond Beach, FL. Used my 24-105 lens @ 58mm, f/16, ISO 100, 12 sec. The shots are heavily cropped. I used a 5D Mark III with a remote shutter release in Bulb Mode. Held the button down when I heard the firework going up in the air and released the button when the firework faded, which seemed to be at the 12 second mark. I adjusted the aperture to F/20 or 22 as the fireworks got brighter. Not bad for not having shot them in a few years. Of course, these were shot on a tripod.
