Problem is, my smart phone has a dumb user:oops:
I have never been able to figure out how to "download an app", let alone get my phone to "talk to" other devices. I've tried to do this stuff over and over again, and am always met with some kind of roadblock that I cannot overcome. So, as nice as it'd be to use the phone, I don't aticipate that I will ever be able to figure out how to get that technology to work for me.

.

I actually think that I would use the articulating screen a whole lot. Why do I think this? Because the touchscreen focus would actually change the way that I shoot. The way I do it now, with selecting AF points, is quite cumbersome and time-consuming. And I still fail to get it exactly right all the time.

The touch focus thing seems like it would be so awesome that I could see myself using it for the majority of my shooting. This would necessitate that I change from being an optical viewfinder user to a liveview user. I absolutely hate using liveview now, but touch focus would make it worth the change.

.

The 70D has this feature. Not sure about your wildlife example but I can definitely see a use for it in a confined area where you can set up the camera with an appropriate FOV then just tap the screen to focus and take the shot. Brings 'candid' shots to a new level. Really looks like something you could have fun with.

Does anyone know whether the 6D Mark II will have an intelligent viewfinder like the 7D2 and newer bodies? I haven't seen a reference to it.

Anyone want to guess on how long it takes for Adobe to update Lightroom so you can edit 6D 2 raw files?

They are usualy very quick with canon cameras. A week tops. Probably a day or two.

"6d offered better overall low light performance due to more sensitive center AF point and slightly better high ISO performance"

I wonder about this compared to the 5D4.

I believe that Canon has said clearly that the 6DII sensor is better DR/noise than 5D4,. just like with the 6D vs. 5D3. Makes sense, again, it is newer, and in this case slightly larger photosites of newer or at least equal generation.

Just a personal point of view about the changing landscape of Canon bodies.

IF there was still a 1D option @ $4,500.00,. I would own it.
Instead I had to buy a 5D4, (which I love, like the 5D3) but again, if there were that 1D option, I would have continued to go that route as I had since 2003.

In which case,. I could EASILY see, in fact guarantee that I would be buying this 6D2 as my 2nd camera.

But this is not the case,. if I want 1D AF performance in a sub $7K body, I have to buy a 5D4 now, and in that case, I get my AF and FF goodness in one camera. No need for a 6D2 now,.

I finally got around to looking at the Df. Hardly a featureless, all-manual, no-frills camera. If Canon stripped video from the 1DX2, would you expect it to sell for $500?

My reference was to an all manual, no modes, no AF, no AE, no meter, no nothing full frame digital camera. All I want is a 20mp (or so) full frame sensor, an OFF/ON switch, a shutter speed dial, an aperture dial, and a shutter button. No top-deck display. No rear LCD. I don't even need a card slot. Give it a USB port and sell it to me for $500.

To be sure, I could put my 6D into manual mode, forgo all the auto-stuff and simulate this kind of shooting. I could also drive a Ruf CTR down the 'bahn at 50 kph. Pretty sure that'll never happen, either.

Back more years than I care to admit, I had a camera I could shoot all day WITH A DEAD BATTERY. The battery only powered the meter, and that is not essential to properly exposing a roll of film.

Features, retail, cost and margin are not 1:1 relationships. I imagine that's why you don't see stripped down air conditionless and heaterless cars selling for 5k new.

I think we all understand that we choose our tools for specific wants and needs.

A person requiring fast AF, dual memory card slots, 4k, 1/8000 SS etc...... Canon specifically excluded it in the 6dmk2. Canon's greed is displayed as a cheaper 7dmk2 crop sensor body has dual slots yet a more expensive 6dmk2 "introductory" FF has 1 slot.

If you need those features the 5dmk4 is the "least priced" solution. So for Canadians a 5dmk4 is a $4400 solution or pickup an older gen 5dmk3 and 1080 HD capabilities !!!

The 6dmk2 is a $2600 CDN solution for the folks wanting dual pixel AF for stills/video, good AF and single memory card SD slot. 1/4000 isn't a total deal breaker but 1/8000 SS headroom is extremely welcoming. I personally do not know many run/gun events photographers lugging ND filters. Instead they'd settle to stop down the aperture to deal with the 1/4000 limitation in bright conditions.

I think most professionals prefer dual memory card slots so this is entirely up to the individual if they want to use the 6d2 for hired events. We can debate about single and dual memory card slots but this should be a current standard for semi pro/pro camera gear.

I wouldn't mind purchasing a 6Dmk2 for dual pixel AF with full frame sensor. Since I do voluntary work with my video application I feel totally comfortable having a single slot SD card. The 80D is my current "fun" body that I like shooting video with along side my fuji X-T2.

If the 6dmk2 meets your needs....buy it. It's no concern to members on the POTN :)

It's unfortunate Canon's bean counters again deliberately crippled the 6dmk2. But again "IF" the 6dmk2 had dual memory slots and it's amazing features would kill 5dmk4 sales. Canon makes the rules and we must follow as we continue to be Canon users :(

I kept seeing this dual slot thing and thinking "who cares" it never happened to me in years. Well, this weekend I was looking thru some new photos and 4 of them were just a solid magenta screen. Was it the card? Would it have been on both cards regardless? I don't know, but I do understand the value of two slots now especially when it counts (paid jobs, once-in-a-lifetime trips, etc)

I'd suggest putting that memory card aside and replace with new ones. See if that magenta ever occurs again. Remove a possible variable instead of "formatting and hope for the best".

Now that 2 slots memory cards exist....Canon excluding that in the 6dmk2 is truly a shame. For Canadians you need to spend and extra $1800 CDN for dual cards and go upto a 4k video level.

I must knock on wood as I've been fortunate using Sandisk extreme pro cards. However that fact that dual memory card slots exists I feel as a loyal Canon user being kicked in the nards LOL!! Just under $5000 (incl tax) for a 5dmk4 in Canada. I was truly hoping Canon added 1 more memory slot and deal with 1/4000 limitations in the 6dmk2.

We all must live within our budget $$$$ I have a piece of mind using my 5dmk3 and Fuji X-T2 for travel since they have dual memory card slots.

I'll stop complaining...it is what it is!!! :(

I didn't expect anyone, especially Canon, to actually make the camera.

I believe that I suggested earlier in this thread (or a similar one) that the 6D might be able to handle 1/4000 f/1.4 in direct sunlight for a matte white, but I just put that to the test and the ISO 50 RAW clipped in the green channel in the white patch of a color checker with the sun over my shoulder, so I was probably thinking of another camera, perhaps the Rebel 400D/XTi, which is another 1/4000 camera that I've owned. That camera certainly has a lot of RAW highlight headroom at ISO 100. One problem with cameras getting more efficient with light is the loss of full highlight headroom at ISO 50/100.

I'm just stating a preference to what many photogs appreciate. Having extra head room is just something no one can really ever complain about. I know many "make do" but for myself I just been in enough situations where I can hit over 1/4000. Not a deal breaker but for "good light" shooting I will appreciate having 1/8000. I honestly don't know any events photographers happily lugging ND filters as 1/8000 is enough headroom to get away with murder in many cases.

The amount of people(not just on here) comparing 6d2 specs to the 7d2 specs and notating that the 7d2 costs less is getting old. If you don't realize the cost difference in manufacturing the MUCH larger chip please spend some time to review it. Stop comparing the price of the fully spec'd crop body to the entry level FF. Take the specs of the 7D2 and put in a FF sensor and you've got a body costing somewhere between the 1Dx2 and the 5D4.

Just stop it.

I dont think it would have cost anything extra to add in dual slots and 1/8000 shutter speed. 4k may cost more if overheating is an issue.
FF sensors cost more but its not like canon had to reinvent the wheel when it came to some of these other options that (for me personally )just seem to be pretty basic and standard.

It would have cost Canon a great deal extra in my estimation ... because of the opportunity cost of lost margin through reduced 5Div sales. To offer the 6Dii at a (relatively) modest price, Canon really don't have much choice but to make sure there is a clear features gap against the 5Div.

Otherwise how do they recover their development costs and make the returns they need for it to be worthwhile for them to stay in the business of making cameras?
