The more I reflect on the amazing FE 12-24mm, and my desire to add it, the more mental clarity I'm getting that the 12-24mm should come at the expense of my Batis 18mm........and filters are a primary reason.

My 25mm, 35mm, 85mm, and 135mm lenses all share a common 67mm filter thread. And it is wonderful! I love the conciseness and efficiency of it. But, the Batis 18mm takes a 77mm, so I have been packing an extra set three filters (CPL, 3-stop ND, & variable ND) just for that one lens. The 12-24mm, obviously, can't take a filter, so if I dropped the 18/added the 12-24mm my focal lengths would be 12-24mm, 25mm, 35mm, 85mm, and 135mm. Five exceptional lenses, and only one set of filters.

This is also why I won't be switching from Batis 18/25mm to Loxia 21mm, don't want yet another filter size to accomodate.

Also, am all done with the 100mm square/rectangle filters and Lee bracket racket...going to sell all that off. Too bulky and messy to schlep around.

Worked on the campervan today, so no time to seek out a wonderful landscape.
Plenty of images coming out of the 12-24 at FM and I bet you all have looked at them.
So the lens arrives mid camper work so to get two birds with one stone this one is at 12mm.
So good news in doubles today. New lens and I only have one more piece of diamond plate to
install where the ceiling meets was above the sliding door on the right.

Hurts me to hear this talk of selling the FE16-35.
What's up with that?
It's my cream and butter on the A7Rii. I can't imagine shedding it,
even if I could afford the GM 2.8 model.

I can understand how you arrived at your decision to let go of your ND filter kit. Unless you're doing super long exposures there really is not much of a need for it given that we have SR app. I have to force myself to use my ND kit sometimes.

Your 12-24 + Batis 25/85/135 sounds like a superb combo.

Did you see the new fotodix adapters? They have magnetic ND rings and built-in macro extension. Pretty sweet.

Been trying to get a good for a while and no luck. BH suppose to have it for 50, but out of stock. The lens is pretty flare resistant, so I'm not too worried. I use a filter for protection.

Haven't seen the magnetic adapters you refer too. Link? I have been thinking the Xume (external link) magnetic filter rings would be really cool to quickly move 67mm filters from lens to lens.

I wish I can afford both 12-24 and 16-35, that's all it comes down to.

I have a full set of 67's, thought I could stick with that, and then life happens :-P

I have a full set of 82's as well as 100's

The bombo system is small enough that I can fit the holder and all my filters into the accessory pocket of my lens holder, I no longer have a separate bag, and I can manage to carry that setup without issue. Thickness wise, it was only taking up slightly more space than my circular filters

I hereby propose a NEW RULE: a global law enforceable in every nation: if you're a press photographer photographing a head of state, you are REQUIRED to use a Sony a9. Sheesh, listening to video clips from the G20 summit makes me cringe from all the shutter noise from DSLR shooters...what an embarrassment.
