Just got my copy yesterday, looking forward to putting it to good use. I think my copy is sharp w/o any decentering problems, but I don't have a great eye for stuff like that. Below are two quick snaps I took this morning just to test the lens out and see where my infinity focus was (it's spot on). I think everything looks fine, opinions?

Got this lens last night during the Prime deal. Looking forward to gettin' my hands on it.

I have the 17-40mm and mostly use it at 17mm. So the extra "un-reach" will be nice.

It's the non-chip version. Too expensive with the chip and some say it is totally unnecessary especially since all you get is a confirmation beep.

Do most of you just leave at infinity?

@gossamer88

I tend to take the "f8 and be there" approach on this lens. set it to hyper focal and it's pretty much ready to go at all times. Also what many have found is that the markings on the barrel are far from accurate, so YMMV.

I would usually leave it at f5.6 and focus distance scale of 1m and fire away. if you need to be really close up, switch to live view and focus manually.

you could also download this useful app called setmycamera and get used to the hyperfocal distance at various apertures for the lens and your camera.

hope that helps!
