So far it looks like the 6D2 has increased the value of the 6D1 basically.

I guess I just don't see how the 6D2 does anything worth it's price tag over the 6D1 or a 5D3.

Very best,

You could also win Powerball. The odds are similar.

After thinking about it it doesn't quite make sense. None of those older tech sensors are DPAF are they? Doesn't make sense that they would make a new DPAF sensor with old tech.

Excellent point to add re: all new DPAF sensor tech,. they would actually have to intend to build a new sensor with lower specs from the get go. None of the older FABS could be used as is, as they don't have DPAF.

The 70D and 7D2 use the older sensor tech and have DPAF. Don't use DPAF as an indicator of the newest sensor design. ;)

They were before Canon started using on sensor ADC design in their sensors though which is what makes it more strange. Someone on DPR posted photos of all the sensors and it showed the 6D2 does have the on sensor design.

If you haven't seen it yet ---- Canon Rumors says they believe the new 90D and 7D Mark III will be released next year with the likelihood of the 90D coming first. Rated CR2. I will wait for the 90D to replace my old 60D most likely if further info supports that.
I just can't believe the new 6D will go backwards. I can't ever remember Canon doing that and they are well aware of the strengths of the current model. Patience is the key!

I can see a 7dmk3 coming out in the near future but I highly doubt Canon can produce a 90D so quickly. Canon's not the sort to break the snails pace they've been known for....... LOL!!!

There are two threads in the rumors forum. I started one here but I didn't realize this was the wrong place for it and it got moved. I'm batting 1000 tonight, I should just go to bed!

The early 6D2 DR reports are discouraging. It would seem strange if Canon crippled the 6D2 but put all of their advanced high performance tech in a 90D or 7D3. I would think there are higher margins on the FF bodies, so they wouldn't want to push people toward crop. But then again, I'm no marketeer.

Canon is facing an uphill battle on sensor competition unless they start selling theirs to others. Sony now has larger than life sensor mass production which gives them an economy of scale. Long gone are the days when Canon had to compete with Nikon, that was easy.

The only purpose for 6dii release is to increase 5div sales. It appears Canon is putting old generation sensor tech in 6dii for whcih R&D has long been paid off.

if indeed the sensor for the 6D is based on older tech then this camera is should be off the cards for anyone wanting to upgrade from the 6D.

If you don't get any improvement (like the 5Dmk4 DR range) then what's the point. The sensor is the heart of the camera. a 6mpx isn't enough for an upgrade. There needs to be more.

This news just enforces my view that this camera is old and because of that it's dead on arrival.

7 series bodies are on a 5 year update schedule and xxD series bodies are on a 3 year update schedule if you go back and look at past release dates. The 7D2 came out in 2014 and the 80D came out in 2016 so we will not see updates until 2019 on both. It's just more CR trying to gain web traffic to their site.

I know this wasn't for me, but I was curious. Total shots in my library faster than 1/4000: 28. All of them on a partly cloudy day when I had my ISO set to either 400 or 800 due to the cloudiness. When the sun peaks out, up goes the shutter speed. I would have been just as happy with 1/2 the ISO and 1/2 the shutter speed.

I'm not smart enough to know how to get that data.... but I have run up over 1/8000 a bunch of times and had to lower the ISO before I could take the shot. I was already at f/8 or f/7.1. But I am often out in bright afternoon sunlight taking bird photos. My wife started using my 70D for birding after hitting the 1/4000 limit with her SL1.

That being said, it isn't that difficult to make the adjustments. A click up in f stop.. and a click down in ISO and you're there.

I use AV most of the time. I set the f stop to get the birds in focus and the background blur I want... pretty much only change the ISO to get the shutter speed I need. I let the shutter speed float the rest of the time as long as I keep it above 1/1000 depending on the lens I'm using. This is for hand holding or using my monopod. Things change a bit if I'm using my tripod, but not all that much unless I'm doing a landscape.
