I still have my 5D2 and 7D, then A7R and A6000, I walk around with the Sigma 19 mm n the A6000, great lens, Sony new bodies are high priced the new G lenses are also high priced, and when you total the systems cost then it approaches simple Leica system. I seriously evaluated 1DX2, but just too heavy.

Cheers,
Tony

wide angle even 50 mm will not work, to make the composite I think a longer lens is required, the duration of the eclipse is from 1158 to 254 so you can test how wide that sun would have moved in 3 hours see here the start and end in Nashville https://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/in/usa/nashville (external link)

I would recommend Thousand Oaks solar filter some are fitted like ordinary camera filter for varying lens diameter. I als made using Baader solar mylar, so cheap to bauy, both these check at Amazon

here is my DIY mylar filter

Thanks, I still have my lee system and a big stopper 10--seems like that's not nearly strong enough though.

Is this essentially what you'd recommend then?

When it comes to solar filters like baaders and Thousand Oaks, are they essentially all the same strength?

My plan for the wide angle setup was to focus more on the change in the landscape (as I understand, it should be nearly as dark as night?) than to focus on the sun itself.

I am back still with A7R and A6000, not getting the A9 for sure and not getting the 5DIV either DSLRs too heavy to carry

great photos Tony, I'm enjoying the Fuji system, very light and compact , reasonably priced as well
