I shot this candid during a local Independence Day celebration. It's a crop. Before & after processing to get a retro look. I'm not sure about it though, so I'd appreciate some critique from you all.

I'm not getting so much a retro look as I am an out of focus look. Plus the processing makes her a little too pink. I'm sorry but this picture doesn't work for me at all.

yeah, mate, maybe that was a retro toaster you took this image with, but quality on this is beyond repairable, I'm afraid :]

About colours, though - you'll need to make it with several layers [Separate for greenery, skin, etc.]. Cheerio!

I used another shot of the same scene. This one looks to be in focus. So I had another go after viewing some retro YouTube videos.
If any of you would like to have a go at it, please do and tell me what you did. Before & after - is the edit still too red?

I used a different shot which was under-exposed but had a better focus. Since it was RAW I could get the exposure back. I decided to go with a B&W sepia. Thanks for your feedback.

Do yourself a favor, Google has free image processing software. Nick's collection. https://www.google.com/nikcollection/ (external link)
You'll get easy to work, stand alone applications (exe files will launch each app). They are best for retro look. Spend few days with each program in this package and I guarantee you'll get retro look to match the shot and her look. She is retro for sure :)

Your last crop is too tight on the right, IMO. And flag deserves to be in the frame as well.

Tru! Nik's is a really great extra tool - they knew what they're doing.

Regarding this image - stop, mate, let it go :D

Thanks for the suggestion. I did myself that favor. I few years ago when they were selling it, I tried Nix and concluded that it wasn't worth the money - I think it was over $100 at the time. I imagine that others came to that same conclusion so now it is free. I did play with it a bit, but found only 2 retro/vintage presets. I'll keep playing with it, but it seems that LR does a pretty good job.

As for the crop, I considered open it up, but thought that the jeans didn't add much. And I have an aversion to the flag being on the ground, so that is another consideration for a tighter crop, besides to recognize it as a flag, I think it would have to be in color.

Thank you for your critique.

Just a thought, next time maybe with that pose, get down a bit to put yourself more at the same level? You could shoot portrait mode to get more vertical material as well, or the landscape as you have it.

I don't know Olafs, second one has potential.
I don't mind it as a candid, depends what the OP wants to use it for.

Nik is FREE by the way Qbx.
