I would appreciate comments on this portrait. I would mostly like to know how it compares to a professionally executed headshot. Thanks!

Permanent banThe main light was too low. Fill is a matter of taste or purpose. When I photograph large subjects, especially women who are weight conscious, I go for a higher ratio, as deeper shadows hide problem areas and slim subjects. Of course, in this case weight is not a problem, but just wanted to make a point of lighting ratios being dynamic, rather than set in stone. 'The success of the second-rate is deplorable in itself; but it is more deplorable in that it very often obscures the genuine masterpiece. If the crowd runs after the false, it must neglect the true.' —Arthur Machen

Positioning the light correctly and perhaps using some fill as DThriller mentioned above will make a difference. Renata

Jul 14, 2017 00:25 | #3710 Thank you, very much! Is there anything other than that? Is the pose alright? Color, cropping, background? Would you say this is a professional-quality headshot? Camera: Canon 7D Mark II and Canon 60D with battery grips and spare batteries

Kamen Besides all the good suggestions above, I would offer: Hockey and wedding photographer. Favourite camera / lens combos: a 1DX II with a Tamron 45 1.8 VC, an A7Rii with a Canon 24-70F2.8L II, and a 5DSR with a Tamron 85 1.8 VC. Every lens I own I strongly recommend [Canon (35Lii, 100L Macro, 24-70F2.8ii, 70-200F2.8ii, 100-400Lii), Tamron (45 1.8, 85 1.8), Sigma 24-105]. If there are better lenses out there let me know because I haven't found them.

itsallart Cream of the Crop More info Post edited over 6 years ago by itsallart. | I prefer this one. The light is nicer but it still needs some fill. The right temple looks a little "dirty" and her left shoulder looks a little high for my taste. Renata
