Which is a sharp shot?
Used appropriately, any cheapo lens can produce a shot which looks sharp when reduced to web size!

Thinking about acquiring this lens soon. I need a good macro lens. Reviews seem to be very good. Anyone have some close up macro shots with it?

Hmm, not trying to be trolly here, but what are you looking for exactly?
Yes, it's good. But then so is every other macro lens I've owned. Unless you want to lose features like stabilisation, I think Sigma and Tamron are the only sytraight competition. Check them at the digital-picture.com. They are cheaper of course, and win in some areas.

There is a hesitation which is that the tests are never really done close-up enough for a macro lens, afaik!

The 100 Macro IS has been my most used lens since I bought it. I specialize in food images and the lens gives a nice perspective, contrast and working distance. I've even used it more than my 85LII when I shoot people.

I just recently bought this lens after viewing this thread and I love it! Been using it for all different sorts of things.

I recently started doing food photography and have been leaning towards buying another. Sold it shortly after this review.

Super close work! I'd recommend a ring light so you can bring up your F stop a bit and get more in focus

The lens you have does 1:1, but the lens I want only does 1:2. How often do you find that range helpful?

It's impossible for me to tell you this. It's a macro lens, so the first question is: Do you do macro work? Ring shots, flowers, insects or whatever. I used it for a portrait lens quite a bit because of how sharp it was and the great focal length. The lens is terrifically versatile. What lens are you looking at?

I had to send pictures in to a faucet company today to try to get a diverter valve for my shower. They wanted them well-lit.

5Div with the 100mm L, 600EX-RT, run through Lightroom and off they went. Maybe I try too hard?

Just started with this lens and loving it for macro and portraits, going to do food soon too. So sharp, wish the auto focus didn’t hunt so much though. Also need to figure out how to use my ring light.

Profoto B1's on each side with 12x55 gridded strips, $29 Chinese flash handheld over the lens for fill

edit: Dust on brand new and "cleaned" plexiglass

Try using the focus limiter, it really can help in some situations. It's not a good lens for low light or fast moving object honestly, but for still objects, it's amazing!
