Practicing sharpening and noise reduction in Ps for those times Lr just won't do!

This is an older image shot with a Lee Big Stopper. I think the Big Stopper has its uses but I'm not sure this kind of image is it. The really long exposure time (173 sec) combined with the relatively dark scene generated a huge amount of noise, as well as removing all the texture from the water. I didn't have one at the time, but a 4 stop or even the Little Stopper would have done the image better justice in my opinion. As it is this took an extensive amount of post processing in Ps, along with using a noise plugin (Dfine2) to get a reasonable image. It was just too far out for what I could accomplish in Lr, which is by far my preferred method.

With that camera body, yes, I would agree, in darkening settings 10 Stop is too much, especially since you were at ISO 200. I found ISO 200 unusable typically after about 2 minutes, especially if the ambient temp was higher. This is actually one of my slides and a big talking point in the LE presentation I have been giving locally all year...

Absolutely. I had just gotten it at the time and played around with it quite a bit. I use a 3 stop fairly often, 6 stop less so, and the 10 stop rarely. Speaking of darkening settings, where are you planning to be on Aug. 21st? As of right now I'm going to be around Clayton.
