Colour version all the way: another case of a photo being made a winner by the outstanding contrast between the warm hues of the subject's skin versus the cool ones of the background: we can't see that in the monochrome.

The pic seems to be completely out of focus.

Are you sure it is not some sort of image-resizing blur in your browser? If you are talking about Kliphe's image, I see perfect focus on the model's right eye. The image is not studio-lighting sharp, but it is a location shot, it doesn't need to be.

It's not Kliphe's image ... which is bang on the eyes in focus ... it's another one higher up that is being referred to.

The reply does (indirectly) indicate which. The photo actually referred to is, it's fair to say, a little bit soft (like 'when you put your reading glasses on to drive the car' soft ... in my case).

David.
Comment and (constructive) criticism always welcome.

It is - 1/20, F5.6, ISO 400 is a Canon Semi Automatic mode setup. The histogram shows it a stop underexposed so the flash wasn't doing enough to stop the action so you are seeing ambient motion blur at 1/20th

Hockey and wedding photographer. Favourite camera / lens combos: a 1DX II with a Tamron 45 1.8 VC, an A7Rii with a Canon 24-70F2.8L II, and a 5DSR with a Tamron 85 1.8 VC. Every lens I own I strongly recommend [Canon (35Lii, 100L Macro, 24-70F2.8ii, 70-200F2.8ii, 100-400Lii), Tamron (45 1.8, 85 1.8), Sigma 24-105]. If there are better lenses out there let me know because I haven't found them.

I see now. I was going to say that image seems to have motion blur rather than being out of focus, but wallsreetoneil beat me to it.
