I realize this is a multi national forum, Living in the USA I used the US dollar. IMHO there should be a monetary value place on the lens when it was sold as brand new. What maybe cheap to me or you maybe be rather expensive for other members.

Where do we make or brake the dollar limit? It's up to you.

I just did -read my previous post - but I don't expect people will listen, so it's not really important. If you own a lens, think it's cheap and want to post, go for it.

I only brought it up because there are some that consider a $1k+ lens to be "cheap" :p

So I had no idea my question was going to cause such a commotion. To make up for it, here's one of the first I shot, when I had much less skill and equipment.

Hale 200-inch telescope, Mount Palomar Observatory
EOS 70D with EF-S 10-18 f/4.5-5.6 IS STM

On a recent trip to Southern California, I fulfilled a childhood dream and visited the Palomar Observatory. There is a small visitors’ gallery where the Hale telescope can be viewed. The lighting was terrible. The area inside the dome was lit at ground level, and there were some faint lights higher up in the dome, but most of the upper structure was in relative darkness. The visitors’ gallery itself is brightly lit, so there was a lot of reflection on the glass. I was holding the camera as close to the glass as I could with my right hand, and using my left hand to block out the worst of the reflections (from bare-bulb lights behind me). Once I got home, post-processing this image challenged my limited Lightroom skills to get the lighting to look relatively even and the colors to look somewhat natural (first time I used graduated filtering in LR). I’m pleased with the result if I may say so myself.

I used a Canon EF-S 10-18 f/4.5-5.6 IS STM lens on my 70D. This image was taken at 10 mm at 1/10 sec, f/4.5, and ISO 6400. I might have gone to 12,800 but I don’t normally use such high ISO values so I wasn’t even sure what 6400 would do in terms of noise. Many people say wide angle lenses like the 10-18 STM don’t need IS, but I was very glad to have it.
