I was down in Parkes in the Central West of New South Wales last weekend for the presentation of the 2017 David Malin Astrophotography Awards (in which I won and Honourable Mention award :-)), and had a chance to do some photography at the 64m Parkes Radio Telescope. This panorama was taken at about 1am on Sunday, when the last quarter Moon lighting up the foreground. Unfortunately the lights on "The Dish" are a bit overexposed, but I'm still fairly happy with how this one came out. There is a larger version on Flickr.

Thanks for looking.

Cheers,
Stephen

Bit of a grainy, inexperienced attempt!

The centre of our Milky Way Galaxy, stretching through to the Southern Cross.

A combination of 10x90 sec exposures stacked together.

Managed this image at a wedding a couple of years ago - single capture no composites ..

Everything just worked out, have been trying to do this at weddings since but it's near impossible to get all the right components to line up ..

Unfortunately it's been a frustratingly busy couple of months and I have had very little time to get out and shoot the Milky Way (also getting skunked by the clouds on the free nights I do have is a real pisser), this is about all I've been able to accomplish in terms of nightscapes:

Love the composition and idea but personally find the flash light shinning up distracting and kind of confusing?
