I want my services to feel like a partnership with my clients where my images are easily shared with other parties. For that goal, I would offer a restricted rate of 1X and an unrestricted rate of 1.25X or 25% for a license to transfer to any third party. To me, it is far better to slightly increase my pricing for a valued client and do more work at my full rate for new clients than to manage the paperwork of licensing to every requested party.

There was a time when it was appropriate to use complicated licensing structures, but today nobody really understands it. A simple working partnership will bring you far more rewards.

I apologize, I was focused (punny) on the distance between frames as 10 ft and not on my typo which is 100 ft / sec.

No problem.

First ever attempt at a "correct" frozen ball photo. Qb was warming up for the second half and I said, "What the hell, I'll give it a try". ;)

Nothing great and the background is terrible.

Nice one.

I was reading an article in Popular Photography where someone had done one of these with a golf ball. I saw the picture and immediately thought of this thread. As I read it, it discussed how he did it.

Pre-focus on a spot - check.
Have golfer in frame - check.
Camera in burst mode - check (arguments about "timed" vs. "spray and pray" aside)
Pose golfer in follow through of a chip shot, then drop ball from above frame in the "focus zone" while triggering a burst of a bunch of photos - ??!#$@#@! ... cheater!

:)

Granted, a frozen ball golf picture would be pretty hard on anything other than a chip or a putt.

I think this counts... well in that it's frozen and I think meets the goals of this thread?

Seeing how it was recently bumped... I have been able to get some of these lately. Funny thing is when done right (not that mine are perfect), the parents LOVE it.

I really like the shot and post processing - however, it doesn't pass the cryptic requirements of the thread... lol

On a side note, pretty sure that's a 4 seam fastball - I like the arm slot, his head could be a bit more over the front leg - again really great shot!

Maybe some clarification on what I think this thread is about would help.

To me, the intent of the thread was to try your hand at sports photos (usually baseball) where there is a foreground & background that are both out of or at least in soft focus... and a completely frozen ball in the middle that is sharp and completely in focus.

To achieve this, you would focus on the ground in the middle of the batter & pitcher as wide open as your lens will allow, frame your shot... then rapid fire as the pitcher throws the ball in hopes that your shutter catches one right at that sweet spot.

Most photos that get posted in here are just pictures of sports with a ball in it, and that's fine... but I don't think it's getting at what the real challenge of the thread is.

Would other long time members agree?

Wooops...... Rules, enforcers, that's new, I've been away a while.

I'll pull my last LAX post. Sorry about that, boss.

This thread has faded to obscurity, and I miss the catty comments on the images that don't pass the standard!
