Ive been in a bit of a photo rut recently sometimes even questioning if I should continue with photography. Ive just been so busy with other stuff that I haven't managed to find the time to head out for landscapes etc like I used to do. I have found though that actually going out and shooting takes away the negative thoughts and after taking some photos for work I am feeling slightly more positive again so hopefully its a passing phase.

I don't consider myself as serious of a photog as many folks here but do enjoy it as a hobby. I totally know what you mean by being in a bit of a rut. Whether its landscapes or lifestyle (what I mainly shoot), I think everyone has ups and downs. Heck, not only with photography. Any hobby. For myself, I have strong years and no so strong years with my kayaking. Regardless, every time I get back in the saddle I realize how much fun it is. I would never consider selling any of my hobby gear ( not that you mentioned that). I just let it sit til I'm ready for it again. Like my wife says..."You don't have to feed it!"

As for you landscapers....I've been meaning to make some type of comment....My hat is off to you folks!. It really does take a lot of time and dedication to capture those scenes. Mainly putting yourself in the right place at the right time. I mean seriously....I live in Idaho, USA. I'm surrounded by mind-blowing scenery every week. But, I'm so tied up doing other things (paddling, haning out with friends/fam, taking care of camp, etc) that I almost never come home with the shot. So kudos to you folks that make it happen. And Eddie, if I were you I wouldn't sweat it if it ain't happening right now. My perception is that you're like a lot of us other family guys with a normal job that has several interests that all require time.

To that end, tomorrow we're headed to Stanley ID for a week. I will once again make an effort to get off my lazy butt and make the shot happen. It's really all about timing. I'm usually worn out by evening golden hour and snoozing hard at sunrise! Late night camp beers might have a little to do the morning laziness! ;-)a

Anyway - these wont really excite anyone with the content but thought I would post them anyway as I found the sunstars pleasing on all of the lights (or light stars??). This is a structure we have just finished building at work and I took these photos (amongst others) for my company to use in marketing material. Its a level crossing replacement (wheelchair friendly ramps, stairs and a bridge over two railway lines to remove a track level pedestrian crossing)

All taken with Loxia 21

This is the type of sought after dwelling around these part. It's made from honey coloured limestone called "Hamstone" and lots of lesser village houses are traditionally built using it too. They can be new builds but the stone is very expensive. Most Hamstone houses are around 200-250 years old.

Very interesting. The Edward Steves Homestead I captured was built in 1876. The home has an ashlar limestone structure which features a concave mansard roof with decorative iron cresting and exhibits characteristic of the French Second Empire and the Italian Villa styles.

Thanks for sharing. I really enjoy seeing architectural photos particularly of older buildings and homes, from the 'old world'. Like many from the US, my ancestors hail from Scotland, England, and Wales. I'm especially interested in seeing photos from Wales, around Cardiff and Caerphilly, where my Lewis line were large land owners.

one more of Maria Romero. She can be an actress. I made up a pretend movie scene when I shoot this and she nailed it in one shot. It was our first shoot ever. If I can make a model or subject be as comfortable as her, i know I win half the battle.

Eddie, I can see how much design and engineering went into that crosswalk/bridge structure. Your company is fortunate to have you capturing images.

On the topic of photography and motivation, I believe we all go through these stages where we just aren't motivated to shoot anything. The factors that lead to this are varied. I can only share my own experiences. I get down on my photography when I start comparing what others are doing. I start to feel jealous that they can travel to amazing locations and can dedicate the time to shoot. When I do make it to a nice location, then there is the pressure to capture something amazing. I try to force it instead of enjoying the experience of just being out. Social media doesn't help either. Best thing to do is tune out the noise and let things happen naturally. Take a break for a while and recharge. Learn to see with a new perspective.

Then there is the issue of gear acquisition syndrome. There is always something new coming out that I would love to own. Truthfully, most of us already have enough gear and high quality at that. I should focus more on improving my photography to include creative vision, composition, story telling, and editing.

!:20 ramp - flat section - 1:20 ramp - flat section etc etc etc. Its so that someone in a wheel chair can wheel themselves up it and is the reason the structure ended up 100m long!

They are. With a ramp there has to be a level section (of a certain length) every 10 metres or so - Or something along those lines ;)

It is pretty obvious to my eyes.
