I would absolutely love to have an a9 for travel/family. I'm using the A7rii half the time and the A7ii half the time.

The A7ii and it's 24mp is very forgiving, the 24-240 pairs very well for my beach outings here in FL, another option would be 24-70, 70-200, but that's a lot more weight and size. For other stuff, 35+85 has been real good, but I'de be lying if I said I didnt miss my 50......

I think I'de use a 50 rather than the 35/85 on most of the occasions I've ran into. It's not a typical vacation since I'm here to visit family, a lot of the indoors, the 50 would have been right, but I didnt plan for it. About to head out to a botanical garden, thinking 24-240 again would be the lens for incidental wildlife, there's been a ton of wildlife in FL, some birding shots

I just upgraded my A6000 to a used A6500 and picking it up at B&H this afternoon (They have the condition listed as a 10 - Preowned equipment, but appears as new). Very excited! Not going to get into the should you or shouldn't you upgrade debates as for me, I felt there are some features that warranted my decision. Just looking forward to the quick train ride into the city and picking up my new camera!

Cool shots Charlie. What's with the vignetting on the wide shot?

My b+w filter vignettes. Bothersome, but I'll get the thin variety after my trip, it's been very helpful blocking off water during my visit.

Florida skies have been stunning

You still have the 50 Charlie? Or sold it? It's based on your recommendation that I plan on adding on, everywhere else gives it a hard time, but seeing as it's a cheaper lens, I have settled my expectations that I shouldn't expect Otus like performance. And coming from using some Fuji lenses, having lenses that squeak, retract in and out, and are slow are no problems, lol.

yes, among my most used lenses next to fe 35. The IQ is plenty fine for 24 mp, even wide open IMO, no problems using for video and photos. The noisy motor doesnt even show up on video most of the time, and when it ever does, it's no noisier than canon's STM.

Tough sell when you came from a beast of a camera:-)

Ive only messed with the a9 at stores .. but that alone is very impresive .
While im happy with the xt2.. the af is good but not as good as some say..im using it straight out of the box settings as far as af go.. and as is , im thinking the a6500 was better as far as consistency . How ever ive read from multiple places that with the xt2 you have to tweak things to get best performance..

You can definitely say that again. Reviewing files from my a6500, I could see that AF definitely hit more than this Fuji did. In most of the shots it hits when I'm moving the points around, like the first picture. In other shots, with stationary objects it just misses, even after a focus confirmation. The immediate lock on Eye AF is surely missed. Also I'll be honest one reason I looked for Fuji in the first place is the jpeg output out of camera. I struggle with black levels and even after taking some suggestions from some people, I still struggle. My daughters hair ends up looking like they're the same acrylic you find on dolls hair.

I'm going to settle on the 35 2.8, the 50 1.8, and the 24-70 f/4 to add to my 85 1.8 for now. I'll look into the rest at a later date, but I think those 4 can satisfy my needs. The only other I would look at for now is the 70-200 f/4. I looked at some of my a7rII with the 55 1.8 and some newer a9 files with the 55 1.8 and I can definitely see that the a9 files are more forgiving and keeper rate is higher. I'm attributing it 60% to the better AF and better Eye AF but 40% to the smaller resolution count and more forgiveness. Especially since I'm shooting run and gun and often using the rear LCD, I tend to get sloppy. Much easier with the a9. With the a7rII I'm seeing a lot of my own files that have motion blur, camera shake, etc. certainly not a fault of the camera but my own sloppy shooting style. Also good is that I don't think I need the best of e best GM glass and can get away with the still good, smaller, slower f4 and lower end primes.

I shot my brother's formal engagement party with the 24-240 and flash, and they were very pleased with it. They wanted me to do their wedding, but I gotta draw the line somewhere.

would have loved to have a 24-70gm for the shoot, but didnt find one on time, so I just rolled with it. Shooting 1/125, 5.6, ISO 1600, + godox TTL, got all my shots within ballpark with minimal post needed. I just had to make a mental note of not going past 100mm due to flash power not being enough.

Thanks guys. Sure thing. Here is a tutorial from tutvids. The more colorful and symmetrical your image the better the effect. The final result looks nice as a desktop wallpaper.

Thank you very much, great tutorial.

I'll try again with a brighter image. Would look great printed on metallic paper. I'll give that a go at work today too :)

Very nice. I forgot to comment on Travis' version which was also great. Yes metal print would be cool. I am going to try a few more tonight.

So did the trial on the 12-24 but didn't have a lot good to shoot this weekend. But did keep it on the 7rII most of the time.

I like it. Dont think I love it. If I didnt have the CV 10 and Lox 21 It would be a no brainer to add to the kit. I could sell the 10 and 21 and still pocket a few hundred bucks to go to other gear and that would be cool too.

However. I just dont love it. Where it improves me is not having to change lenses so often and introduce dust to the sensor. And AF. I lose color and cool star effects and the 2.8 on the 21. I forgot one of the issues I have with zooms is I am either 12mm or 24mm rarely in between. I also was very concerned about the bulbous glass sticking out on the front. I boulder hike a lot and that could be a big issue.

In the end I think I need to wait and see if the 16-35 will really wow me. But after working with this 12-24 Im not sure that the 16-35 is really going to help me any where other than lens changing. Maybe I just need a small plastic bag on my chest to change faster.

I also like the small lens set up I have of the 10, 21, 28/2 and 55 It all fits in a small bag and covers so much range. If I focus on getting the A9 I may do my sunrise sunset pics with the 10mm on that and the 21 on the rii and then not have to lens change so problem solved there too.

55 and 90 are the most confusing in my bag. I dont want to get rid of either and only am so that I can afford other lenses.

Adorama says they will have the 100-400 in stock in a few days and B&H just sent me an apology for my order that doesn't say back-ordered unless you go to a 'hidden' page..... but in that apology they say they will have stock on 8/14

So my kit will be 10, 21, 28, 55, 90, 100-400 Ar7ii and 6500 (until i sell it for A9) and the 6000 infra red ..... will need a 1.4 to really round that out. Still think the 55 and 90 might be extra grrrrrrrr

Some 12-24 shots
