Vinz, back when I'd kill an insect in preparation for stacking I used ethyl acetate.
I have a killing jar where the chemical is inside a small cup with perforated lid so the fumes
get the insect in the jar but no direct contact.

There is a whole science/practise of 'grooming' insects for super macro photography, down to
even cleaning their hair, hydrating their eyes; and a whole list of chemicals for each step.

The stacking itself I use a StackShot rail.....back in the Canon days....will work with any camera though.
The challenge in super macro stacking is light (of course, isn't light always the challenge). I've not
stacked a dead specimen with the Sony kit---again me enjoying it more to go out in the weeds and do
my best. It just became not a challenge to shoot the dead.

Wow I thought it's easy, it's not. thanks for the info.

Sawtooth Lake pano....high noon of course! ;-)a Taken from the south side....again, not the typical image of the lake. Note my wife and friends approaching from down the trail.

The lake is at 8,435 ft.

Here is the iconic Mt. Regan that towers from above at 10,190 ft. (and my wife and I of course)

I take shots at high noon. These cameras today have such great dynamic range. We just got back from the Caribbean. I just underexpose about a stop. I'd love to share here, but I couldn't take the A7Rii for fear of breaking cover. That camera has not been sanctioned by the finance committee yet. lol

Upon learning that I sold "two cameras to upgrade to a better one" (it was really three), the finance committee was thought me daft. I have to deliver the goods now or else! :)

OK, Flesh fly different angle. And a Green bottle fly on grape, promise no more flies this summer....get 'em while I can, the trip is 23 days away, will be gone
25 days, so a lot of bugs will be gone when I get back.

Nadim, was it you? I didn't read all the way back 'For those of you who own the FE90, can you do me a favor and try something? Set the lens to MF. Rotate the focus ring all the way to mfd (0.28m) and put some object at that distance, in focus. Now set the lens to AF, without moving camera or target. See if you can get the lens to AF at that mfd. Mine will not.'

So 0.28 meters is 11.02 inches BUT you didn't say from the film plane or the front element?
So I did as you asked and measured an object 11 inches from the film plane AND did it again 11 inches from the front element.
In each case I manually focused and then popped into AF and in each case the camera (a9) would AF at what I'd manually focused on.

Pic of the target used for the 0.28 meter test :)
I focused on 'Sony'.
The a6500 and Rocket Blower with the 28mm F2 and an excuse to play with the Adaptive Wide Angle filter in PScc.

You all remember the awesome shot Travis got from Roan High Bluff last week?
We were hunting bugs near Carvers Gap yesterday and went on up to the bluff for a
sunset that didn't happen. Still nice being up there, it was 58F and downtown when we left 89F.
This shot 5-6 min's after sunset and 2 miles (crow fly) from the cabin-
