Never tried it. I tend to have trouble with early mornings, which is why most of my shooting is at sunset.
Maybe one of these days. Let me know.

on a side note, I was looking at the map, and dont you live in the YL area? My next try for the plane flying through the moon will be in diamond bar. Trying to maximize my chances by capturing the many planes flying to LAX. The trajectory points me in the diamond bar area, give or take 5 miles. Maybe you can do some experimenting :p

basically, travel north a few miles, see if the planes are above or below the moon (or north south). if below the moon, then you've gone too far and have to back track. Oh, and it has to be 2 hours after moon rise or it keeps rising and screws up your calculation.

Yes I do live in YL.
I am not really sure how you came up with diamond bar. I can't imagine the planes being low enough that far out.
I can tell you I had a plane right below the moon yesterday from Elysian park, but the plane was way too far. Not the same you're going for.

I did not really follow how you came up with the 2 hrs.

Sony A7RII and a bunch of lenses.

The moon needs to be a certain height. The initial rise is too fast and doesn't flow the same direction the plane flies. You can certainly do it but a very short window of opportunity. You need a lot of time to try your luck.

Just look outside your house, are the planes north of you? The moon should be south. So if you travel north enough, you will be north of the planes and they start become south relative to you. LAX is parallel to the 105, and the moon is south. The higher elevation, the plane will appear smaller and you'll need to go northern of what I want the other night.

You may end up living at the spot for this to happen. Window of opportunity is very small though, you need a full moon and best hours are before 10pm, lots of planes in the sky.

Eddie what time does the Moon set?
Might have to set the alarm for 0400.

Moonset is a couple of hours after sunrise just now unfortunately

So our eyes only see 'bokeh' when objects are relatively close to the face...for scenes like this where its clear that objects should be far away, when things are thrown out of focus it gives the impression that you're looking at a small scene up close and from above, vs a large scene from far away.

Nice job BTW David!

Excuse me again for posting a panny shot. this was from my LX100.

Lit with on-camera speedlight(cutie Godox TT350o), flagged with a black foamy thingy and bounced to the right wall.

I'm just thinking if i can pull this good quality with a M43 P&S, the A9 is for sure a super camera for me despite being slightly inferior in terms of image quality compared to the RII. Like Gene said, who cares for image quality if you missed the shot. lol

I need more patience to wait for the Mark III.

MM - is it a fiat Ducato you have converted? I'm seeing them at all the sites and realising you can stand up fully in the back without a pop top

My two-pack of Pixel King Pro Transceivers ($148 USD for a pair on Amazon) came in today, I tested them, and they are functioning out to 20' away. They are supposed to go 300', but I doubt I'll ever test that kind of range. I just need dependable for two shoots over the next week or so.

I really hope this lasts and performs for a few years. Sony is crazy charging what they do for their own.

Nice gene. I always enjoy a miller highlife when in the states. Years ago you used to get cans of miller pilsner here and that was my fave drink but now all you get is miller genuine draft and I don't like that at all. Not sure why pilsner failed over here. Highlife never even made it in the first place
