Leaving the nest!!!!

Any thoughts or comments on the lens(the first edition one af-d model) I am hoping to get one to use on a d7100 for aviation - airliners in flight like I have been doing for years with other equipment.

Nikon 300mm f/4E PF ED VR
- some photos are with TC-14E III attached
- shot with Nikon D500 or D810A

Interesting how POTN translates the EXIF and states that these were captured with the 200-400mm f/4 lens. I wish I could afford the 200-400mm lens! These were shot with the new 300 f/4E. You can view my 300mm f/4E photos on my Flickr gallery (external link).

These are all very nice! I have the D500 on its way and I'm torn between which wildlife lens to attach to it. Size, weight and what I've seen it can do says the 300mm F4 PF. Budget says maybe the older 300mm F4. But, since I have both the 70-200 2.8 and 70-300 VR (my copy is wonderful), I'm thinking maybe 200-500. The price is in that same ball park and its focal length is much different than what I already have. The size though...

I do like the 200-500mm, but for wildlife, focus is a bit slow for me. So I use the 300mm or the 500mm. Been in several situations where I had only the 500mm and I had a snake in close proximity. In those moments, I was wishing I had the 200-500 so I get a shot before the snakes darted away.
