I just tried to do some image printing from my old Epson Artisan 810 printer, "Princess Bula." I've got a very rare need to make some DVDs, and I used my Artisan to print image labels on them (back when I did a lot of DVD creation). Over the last few years, I've only used the Artisan for scanning.

But I'm getting really garbage image results. Neither Windows 10 nor Photoshop presents me an option to go into the Epson printer color management application as they once did.

I'm supposing this is a matter Epson not having updated the Artisan 800 series drivers since 2012. But this basically makes the printer useless for color printing.

Or is it something else?

I had a similar problem some years ago with an elderly scanner. No drivers for Win7.

I gave it to my son who runs Linux (Ubuntu) - he had no problem finding a driver for it.

Know anyone who runs Linux?

Maybe I'm missing something but I just looked on the Epson site and it has the driver for W10-64.

May still work. My dad had an old Okidata color printer and the newest drivers were for Vista but they worked under Win10.

I have the newest drivers, but they do nothing but print. The old Epson color management application isn't available. It used to be reacheable by the printer preferences in Windows or by the Print dialog in Photoshop. Gone now--there is no way to manage color, and what there is is atrocious.

I've got the same problem with an old Canon printer (Pixma IP6600D). Since updating to the new Windows 10 Creators version it is no longer supported and refuses to work.

And I don't know it wasn't, specifically, the Creators version that did me in.

This constant updating of Windows really needs to stop until they can find a way to stop breaking stuff.

The move to Windows 10 was especially painful for many devices being dropped, due to incompatability of Win10 with prior versions of Windows drivers.
It is Microsoft's blame for the environment being non-compatible, it is the vendors' fault for not staffing adequately to maintain support of their devices in the latest O/S.

I have consciously chosen to say on Win7 for precisely that reason, to maintain support of many devices that I do not wished to be FORCED to upgrade...equivalent devices no longer on the market, and made useless because of a computer running Win10! In many cases, the devices are the LAST of their kind. Imagine you have a film scanner that is no longer offered, like a Nikon scanner...and it no longer works under Win10, and a newer film scanner that is equivalent is simply no longer offered! if my desktop PC were to die and need to be replaced, I would probably back up the new PC factory load (so that I have a copy of it to use eventually), but then I would use my Microsoft Win7 disk to overwrite the factory load and support the devices I currently have.

IMO, they don't care. One of their "upgrades" killed their very own $80 Microsoft Sidewinder Pro joystick which I mistakenly bought because I thought it would always be supported. It's was GREAT! Programmable! Lots of buttons! Piece of sh!t now!
Not to mention they killed some of my favorite flight sims, too.
They killed the Office 2000 suite which wasn't cheap.
They killed PS7.
I expect that some small utilities won't be supported as time goes by, but are we surprised that the guys from Redmond have little respect for the consumer?

Edit: Just saw this: Consumer Reports pulls support for Surface laptops
https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1484811

Consumer Reports has removed its coveted “recommendation” designation for four Microsoft Surface laptops it had previously blessed with such status.
256GB versions) and Surface Book (128GB and 512GB versions). Its decision applies to models with detachable keyboards as well as those with more traditional clamshell designs.
It estimates Microsoft’s laptops and tablets will experience breakage rates of 25% within two years of ownership, loosely defined as any issue that comes up that prevents the computer from working as the owner expects.

The sad part is I remember when Microsoft cared about backwards compatibility. That's why I'm a PC user.

The answer is simple, don't upgrade or set up the machine to dual boot.

A Canon iP4600. Perfectly usable still for printing general stuff and photographs, but Windows 10 doesn't support it. Found a workaround by using the Windows 8 drivers. Just don't see why I should need to go to the expense of a new printer when this works fine.

Easier said than done. Win7 has under 3 years of updates left and its already getting harder to support. Win10 forces updates on you and drops support if you're 3 versions behind (about 18-24 months at the current rate). I don't mind small, incremental updates. I don't like holding my breath every 6 months when they push a whole OS upgrade. In-place Windows upgrades have always been risky and although they've gotten better, there's still a risk that the whole thing blows up or breaks some critical function. Doing it every 3 years is one thing. Having it forced on you every 6 months is another thing entirely.
