Would have liked to be there, thanks for the report Ed. I haven't been there yet but plan too in the spring.

I have been there only twice, both in the last few weeks. The first time, late afternoon about two weeks ago, it was pretty dead. This past weekend there were tons of birds and gators at the pumphouse in the morning. I didn't see much else anywhere else. I was in the area both times and wanted to check it out, usually I am looking for raptors!!! None. Except of course osprey but these were too far away.

This is an owl from the Nature Center at Land Between the Lakes Kentucky. It is there because it's eye stays dilated which affects depth perception enough that it cannot hunt.

Another shot of a rather scruffy looking Florida Scrub Jay. 5DIV plus Canon 300 2.8 and 2.0 TC, incredible combination.

This is a Wood Sandpiper, I've only managed to see them very long distances away. A very shy bird. I was so Very lucky yesterday 3 of them were with 2 common and 5 Green Sandpipers. It was good to see the 3 very similar varieties together and to compare the colours/sizes/characteristics.

The 2nd photo was taken 100+ metres away is heavily cropped. But a good record shot. I was surprised to see on the RSPB web site that there are only 11-25 pairs in the UK.

I am very privileged. :-)

Nice little tally of waders you had there. Yes, Wood Sands are a rare breeding bird in the UK, but we always get a sprinkling of birds from further east passing through on autumn migration in August through to October.
