Adjust highlights, shadows, black and white points and dehaze in ACR. Also adjust white balance to enhance the reds in the rocks and warm things up a little. In Photoshop, added a little pop using Photoninja plugin as well as ColorEfex 4. Remove CA/fringing and finally, removed mid-stream rock since it seemed more distracting than adding anything to the image.

I was bored so I wanted to give this a try. Adjusted white balance, contrast, shadows and massively decreased highlights. Also dehazed in photoshop. Obviously cropped and removed the log and then did some light tone mapping.

ACR for lens correction and CA -> save as DNG and then tonemap with SNS-HDR (save as TIF).

Transfer to Photosjop -> Levels -> Recover Highlights -> Nik Tonal Contrast filter -> Haze removal -> Topaz Detail to improve detail in the falls -> remove log -> Sponge Toool.

Reduced exposure, highlights, shadows, adjusted wight balance, increased saturation and clarity in Photo Shop CC. Added things normally removed from photos. Processed it in Color Efex Pro. Did layer overlay and 16x9 crop in Paint Shop Pro. Saved it as jpg, uploaded to Smugmug and watched the detail fall apart when posted.

Bianchi, loved how you made the water look silky.

Stiga, you made the waterfall and the rocks pop. It was hard to decide between you and Navydoc.

Navydoc, is the winner of this challenge. You brought back the sky and gave it depth plus giving it the pop factor too. Stiga is the runner up of this weeks challenge. But congrats to all. You made it really hard to pick this weeks winner.

Thanks very much. Here's this week's challenge...

Before and After - The Weekly Editing Challenge

...now compiled into a single, easy to locate thread, that can be added to your subscribe/follow list!

Rules are simple:

  • Download the image file from the current week

  • Contestants will have 7 days to edit the image and post their edited version to the thread (1 entry per week)

  • The owner of the original image will choose a winner

  • The winner will copy & paste this post and include a new downloadable image link

The new image must be unedited / SOOC (straight our of camera), full-resolution, and in a RAW format, ie. CR2, DNG, TIF, etc (Dropbox works well for uploading and linking these large files)

The purpose of this game is to be creative and learn new editing techniques. You must give some insight into exactly how you went about editing the image. For example, increased shadows sliders, reduced highlights, local sharpening, white balance adjustment, specific filters used, tone curve adjustments, etc. Comments and/or questions regarding the edits are encouraged.
