Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Sports

A few from today, work's been busy so haven't gotten out Used the Sports on my 5d MkIII for the first time. Seems to focus faster, but I sure miss the 1.6 crop factor the 7dII has. I will likely stick with the 7dII with this lens.

A few from today, this lens continues to impress me. A Cooper's Hawk with a still-alive baby dove, shot with Sigma 1.4 converter at 1280 equivalent, no crop. 7dMkII. Second is after the dove is no longer, teleconverter off ... I've been watching this Cooper's for a few weeks and starting to get some idea of its habits and territory. This was a pleasant surprise as a photographer. I didn't disturb it, it ate the whole bird while I stayed a respectable distance away and shot.

Along with the above Cooper's a Black-Crowned Night Heron was at the park, first time I have seen one at this particular location.

I am currently using this lens with my 7d markll. I am considering moving up to a 5d marklV. My question is, how much nicer do the images look? Will I gain that much? I would shoot mostly wildlife. I know the better iso will be a benefit in lower light situations, but what else can I expect? Trying to decide between a new body or glass.

If you primarily shoot wildlife I'd keep the 7D2.

I agree with this. I have a 7dii and a 6d. Once in a while I try this lens on the full frame and, while the ISO capabilities are nicer, I always find myself going back to the crop.
Personally, I'm hoping/waiting for good things from a 7diii.

I had some times out in Yellowstone this spring where I cranked up the iso to try and get enough shutter speed and ended up with so much noise that the shots were not worth taking. That is what got me thinking about the 5dlV. I like the crop factor of the 7dll and would miss that. I do shoot some landscape, but mostly wildlife. I have been with my company for 35 years and they gave me a hundred dollars for each year of service. So now I have some fun money to spend. I guess the bad thing is if I get the 5dlV, this lens and my 100-400 version one are the only lens that will work with it.

Decided early in the morning to head up to Guilderton and make the most of the nice weather before the nasty storm arrives. Nearly 6 pm now and nothing has happened ye

Sad to say I've encountered my first issue with this otherwise stellar lens and my 1D MKIV. Receiving an error code 01 as the lens randomly goes very dark at releasing the shutter. Error message states the contacts between lens and body require cleaning. Both are clean, and have not had this issue with any other lenses. Anyone else encounter anything similar?

I do like the images from the 5D4 better, no question. I just spent 2.5 weeks in Botswana and was shooting these two bodies side by side.

Without question the 7D2 is a workhorse, and it's AF was always as good as I have used.
It was essentially welded to the 100-400mm VII, with a occasional use of the 18-135mm STM as well.

For most wildlife applications, the advantages of the 5D4 DR, IQ noise are not going to be required. Also to get similar field of view to the 400mm on a 1.6 crop I needed over 500mm on the 5D4, so I was using the 1.4x TC for 700mm on FF.

Shooting early AM and into the evening, the 5D4 certainly begins to come into it's own.

What other advantages does the 5D4 have? Add in the fact that if you ARE using a big prime with T-Cons like I was, the 5D4's AF handles the T-cons better than the 7D2. On a naked lens like the SIGMA, that advantage is moot IMHO as it's not really worth messing about with t-cons at all.

Lastly AF during live view is better on the 5D4.
