No filter, SOOC on both. Second one was just before totality

Northwest Indiana. Viewing got better as the eclipse progressed. Taken with an old Minolta DiMAGE 7i using eclipse sunglasses.

Beauties, Geoff. How close to totality do you need to be to get the diamond ring effect? I was expecting it here, but at 95% (our limit), I never saw it.

I believe to see that you need to be at a full 100%

We had to abort our family trip to a totality spot in Columbia MO (reached Chicago, then realized the weather will no cooperate), so unfortunately this is the best I could do - from my backyard in Hamilton, Ontario:

I also tried taking photos through my 6" telescope with a DIY front filter made out of a bunch of solar eclipse glasses, but the quality was worse that the above shot (made with a 70-200 mm lens at 200mm, with 16-stop ND filter).

Not anywhere near as good as all the ones posted thus far. We had cloud cover, but did manage to grab a shot while it peeked through.

Water tower, about 1/4 mile away, shot during our totality, which was only about 93%. This is a 6 sec exposure. Had about 10stops ND filter.

They were right when they said "pretty close" isn't good enough. But it was still fun to photograph and see it get darker. It also felt a lot cooler with less sun beating against my skin. I was sweating it up at the beginning and end.
