Patina, a trip you'll remember.
Speaking of, my EasyCover has shipped from Europe for the a9.
I know many don't like them but my A7Rii has been wearing one a long time.
IF only LensCoat would get the cover out for the 100-400.
Now will the easycover get here before I leave? Probably not.

Patina...wish I could look at it that way...the brassing on the top edges of the A7R2...that is Patina...this...this is on the flippin screen...its driving my OCD crazy already...

Nice!!! I'm excited for you. I remain highly tempted by that lens...but either Batis 25 + 135 or 85 + 135 would have to be sold to make it happen.

I love those Batis lenses, so I can't bring myself to part with any of them just yet. However, if 100-400mm amazingness shows up here in this thread it might help me make a decision. :)

I'll be sure to do what I can to make that decision even easier for you David.

Despite the scuffed up screen...I still enjoyed shooting on the beach, getting my feet wet again...a shot from tonight with the a9. A clean sensor is a wonderful thing....LOL!

Beautiful scene Travis. I say the a9's sensor performs beyond it's 24mpx's but
it gets just as dirty and just as quickly as the a7Rii's.
One thing Poof noticed and I agree with is the hefting density of the a9....not that I would
put it in a stocking and swing it as a weapon but one could :)

Travis, not far down this thread a DPreview member had screen replaced on a7r, might give an idea of
the process/cost-

https://www.dpreview.com …29438#forum-post-58306056 (external link)

Which reminds of something I love about the Olympus M1ii, the complete tilt/swivel/move into protective
posture LCD. Sony could take a lesson on that.

Forgot something. Do you have insurance on your camera? I can drop mine in a lake and I have replacement
rider/personal articles policy at State Farm....cost me a bit over $1300 a year for the camera kit but piece of mind
for any reason. Won't help on a trip if I'm far away and it's first day though.

I had a trip out last night to try out the Batis 18mm for astro. First time I've really had a good go with it, and very happy.

Piha on Auckland's west coast put on a great display for us.

2 row panos of 7 and 9 shots each row.

Nice!!

I get a bit jealous of those of you here that have acces to these kind of sky's

From my research , the nearest place to me where i could get a decently dark sky is 155 miles away , in new jersey.. that is a place where access is availble 24hours a day

yeah, we are really blessed down here in New Zealand.

I'm in the biggest city in the country (Auckland) and get to dark enough skies, either east coast or west coast within 40 minutes. I've never been to the South Island, but have seen mates images and they are just unreal down there.

Of course blessed and lucky, i remember i was there once in 2008, the darkness is to die for, pity i wasn't into astronomy that time and i didn't know how to shoot milky way that time good enough.

Almost the same here, all dark sites to me is far about 60 miles up to 200 miles, if i need darkest then even further, and i don't drive that far, not even for 20 miles which is not that much dark anyway, but i don't worry much about seeing or viewing, i am starting imaging and there are ways even under light pollution urban.

Yup. Looks like it has a BSI sensor. It might actually by the a7rII sensor without the AF pixels, hence the higher resolution.

5D killer for sure.

it reads that it's still using contrast detect AF in live view for video. Does that mean that nikon still doesnt have any answer to canon's dual pixel AF?

4K without that feature would be pass for many.
