Perfect. Pose, composition exposure and detail is about as good as it gets. An interesting looking bird too.

Thanks! Been working a lot lately so didn't have a good chance to test it out more but this is another one from the same night. Was just messing about waiting for the Moon set :)
There's a bit of noise in the shadows but that's only because I really pushed it on this one. Should have exposed longer or used higher ISO.

I had a 330D M Sport Tourer as my company car in 2011/2012. Loved that car and was gutted when it went back and was replaced by a VW Passat estate.

Couple nice free outdoor shows recently up at Damrosch Park Bandshell, Lincoln Center the past couple of weeks. August 5th was Nick Lowe w/ Los Straightjackets. Finally getting around to processing and posting.

Richard Gilewitz and Tim May, both guitar pros, one fingerstyle and one flatpicker, at a gig in Jupiter, Florida this past weekend. I know them both, they are both amazing players and very entertainng.

This was my trusty 6D plus 70-300L @76mm, at ISO 5000, with some post processing in LR. Even though I also now have a 5DIV, the 6D still gets a workout when I shoot live concerts. And always delivers if I don't screw up (I managed to screw up plenty, accidentally changing settings for several batches of images this night, had one batch of dark shots, one batch of burned shots, one batch of fuzzy ones as I accidentally set shutter speed to 1/20 somehow for a bunch. Sigh. )....

Hi Chris

Were you really there on April 15th (you must be very efficient at uploading and posting)? I do a lot more lurking than posting, and found your posts recently while catching up on things I'd missed. I was amazed to find that we had both been at the same place on the same day with the same camera (6D)!!! We were on holiday from Australia, competing in some orienteering events over Easter, and couldn't resist this gorgeous view.

How did you get your sky so blue - polarising filter? Also, how can this steep slope have been an airstrip? We walked further down, thinking there must be a nice long flat piece of ground somewhere down there (there wasn't).

Third picture gives a bit of a view from further down the slope - if you zoom in (may need to go to Flickr) you can see sheep grazing in the distance.

This was my first visit to NZ, and we really enjoyed it. I have been drinking in as much as I can that you and other NZ photographers post on these forums, and hope to return in the not too distant future (haven't been to the South Island at all yet...).

Cheers

Alec

Hi there and thanks for the lovely comments.

I certainly was there and in truth these were the only photos I took! Blue sky, I tend to expose for sky in landscapes then boost the blue if needed in adobe camera raw. I have the rental version of Photoshop and Lightroom. My computing skills are very basic, I can not get lightroom to work properly for me, so do what I can in photoshop.

The airstrip would be for top dressing aircraft, possibly taking off downhill to get airspeed up quickly. I have lived in the south island and when you get there you will find scenery wise it is like being in a whole different country. Still full of Kiwi's but :p

I was out exploring that Easter, I do live in Auckland about 90 mins drive away, but I was giving my newish to me yr 2000 Mercedes Coupe a work out. Man I love that car! ;) There was a serious crash on that road that afternoon as well, the tow truck blocked the road for about 1/2 an hour.

Checking your exif on flicker I notice you were there after 5 pm which would be around sunset then, and my shots were taken about 1:40 pm so yes your skies would be less blue than mine on that rather blustery weather day. I have to admit, I am on my own but I thouroghly enjoyed the explore trip and will be doing more. The North Island is very pretty but the south rather more rugged. more of my flickers here, these sites for some reason stopped working for me some some pics are crud, some not bad! Mostly south Island enjoy! :) https://www.flickr.com/photos/chriswaypix/ (external link)
