The peregrine falcon is the fastest bird, and the fastest member of the animal kingdom. When in its hunting dive, the stoop, it soars to a great height, then dives steeply at speeds of over 200 mph.

There is a pair less than a few minutes drive from my house in a quarry, but whenever I see them they are always so high up. This was a lucky shot where it came down to a reasonable height.

Someone told me they are one of the few birds that can break terminal velocity... not sure if that's true or not, but I've seen 'em in the dive routine, it's pretty crazy!
